Faction list

Units overview

Units are the primary method with which you will engage in battle with neutral armies & enemy heroes. While heroes can cast spells and use certain other abilities during combat, they cannot exist without an army, and your hero will be defeated once they lose all of their units.

Your main source of new units will come from different creature dwellings you build in your faction's Towns, and can be recruited into your army with gold and other resources for more powerful units. Additional creature dwellings can be found outside of towns on the adventure map, although they will need to be visited by a hero to recruit the creatures inside of them. More powerful creature dwellings will have a neutral army guarding them, which will have to be defeated before you are able to claim the dwelling and recruit the creatures inside to your army.

Types of units

Units generally are broken up into three different attack types: those who engage in battle from long range, those who do their fighting up close, and a third hybrid style of attacking called Long Reach.

  • Ranged creatures can attack any unit on the battlefield from any amount of distance, but will suffer a damage penalty to enemy units that are further than 3 hexes away from them.
  • Melee attackers must close the distance with their foes to engage with them, and after attacking and damaging an enemy unit, will receive a counterattack from the surviving units in the stack.
  • Creatures with the Long Reach ability attack their opponents from an additional hex away, avoiding counterattacks from melee range. With careful planning (or spells), creatures with the Long Reach ability can attack enemies across obstacles on the battle map (like castle walls) without fear of the other creature being able to reach them.

Beyond these 3 attack types, most units in the game will have different passive and activated abilities that can change how they fight on the battlefield. Some ranged units have a Sharpshooter passive that negates the ranged damage penalty, while other melee units receive no counterattack when engaging with enemies, or can even counterattack before an attacker has a chance to strike. It is recommended to familiarize yourself with the passive and active traits of your troops and enemy armies to have an idea of what to expect from them during combat.

Creature types

Creatures come in a variety of types, such as Living, Undead, Magical Creatures, and so on. A creature's type usually indicates the potential range of luck and morale they may have in battle, as well as minimum values (Dragons, for example, will always have a morale rating of 0 to 5, while Living creatures have a range of -5 to 5). Additionally, the Necromancy skill may not have any effect on certain creature types, like Embodiments.

Visit the Creature Types page for a full breakdown of the different types of creature you may encounter in the world of Jadame.

Creature abilities

During Combat, some creatures have the ability to perform actions that can strongly impact the battlefield & other creatures. These are referred to as Abilities, and can have wide-ranging effects; from damaging other creatures to impeding their capability to utilize their own abilities, to dispelling all negative effects cast upon them. Creature Abilities are only usable in combat after generating a sufficient amount of a resource called "Focus Points", which are gained when they attack or are attacked by other creatures, or by casting certain spells. Each creature's Abilities are explained in more detail both in the Faction Units pages and in each creature's individual page on this wiki.

Unit tiers

Units are broken up into different tiers of power and effectiveness, from 1-7. A tier is a general representation of the strength and effectiveness of a given unit, and it can be expected that higher tier units will be able defeat lower tier units in a 1:1 fight.

Outside of the normal Factions, there are rare instances of tier 8 units appearing in neutral armies and encounters. Tier 8 units are an order of magnitude above tier 7 units, and should be approached carefully in combat.

Native terrain

Creatures who fight on terrain that is native to their faction will receive a +1 bonus to their initiative. Additionally, an advanced-level subskill for each faction's unique skill can grant friendly creatures +10% Damage and make them take -10% Damage on native terrain.

Below is a list of the different factions and their native terrain:

  • Temple: Grass
  • Necropolis: Deathland
  • Dungeon: Dirt
  • Schism: Snow
  • Hive: Lava
  • Grove: Autumn
