Overview
Humans are an adaptable species, but very susceptible to the rain. The are adept at
Farming and really enjoy
Brewing.
Their Starting Ability is to reveal the nearest patch of Fertile Soil. Humans have a base Resolve of 15, with a Break interval of 02:00 minutes. Their Resilience is listed as Low, and their Demand, along with
Beavers', is the highest at 30. With a Decadence level of 4 and a Hunger Tolerance of 6, Humans are one of the last to leave and make for a stable species.
Consumption and Satisfaction
Like all species, Humans need to fulfill Complex Needs to start generating Reputation. The more Complex Needs you fulfill, the higher their Resolve will go, up to a maximum of 50. With the exception of the Housing Needs, every need fulfilled grants an additional effect, like
Porridge's increased double production chance.
Needs overlap
The table[1] below lists the needs
Humans share with other species:

Strategy
- Counterintuitively, the Human starting ability to reveal Fertile Soil has the largest impact on maps that discourage farming like the Marshlands and Rocky Ravine, and no impact on the Bamboo Flats, which centralizes farming as the main Biome mechanic.
- Since Fertile Soil is rare in the Marshlands and Rocky Ravine, the ability to reveal Fertile Soil can enable farming Blueprint picks when they would otherwise be unwise choices.
- The Bamboo Flats contains no Fertile Soil at all, so the reveal Fertile Soil ability has no effect there. Additionally, since the Bamboo Flats grants increased Farm production bonuses based on how much Fertilizer has been generated, the +10% bonus that Human farmers get is quickly made negligible in comparison.
- Similarly, the Barren Lands World Map modifier removes Fertile Soil from the Map and also disables Farms and Fertile Soil buildings completely, making the Human proficiency bonus irrelevant.
- Humans have the highest base Resolve of any species, allowing them to weather the Storm more easily than other species in early years.
- This enables strategies like favoring vulnerable species during the storm, as Humans may be able to withstand the -5 Resolve penalty without dropping to 0 Resolve.
- Since early Impatience can help reduce Hostility to manageable levels, the Human Firekeeper ability is very situational and can even harm your progress towards victory.
- The best time to use a Human Firekeeper is when you know in advance that high Impatience will become a problem. Modifiers like Sparkdew Crystals and Land of Greed can quickly cause failed settlements if not managed correctly. Strategies that revolve around killing or exiling your own villagers can also quickly cause Impatience to build up.
