This page explains how to keep the wiki up to date: what to edit after a patch, and how to add new items, cauldron recipes, weapon modifications and forge edges. You don't need to know any programming. Most changes are a single line on one page.

If something here is unclear, ask on the Discord or on this page's talk page.

Where things are kept

The numbers for every item, weapon and cauldron item (rarity, stats, effect, region and recipe) are kept in one place: Module:ItemData/data. Item pages, item lists, the item database and the cauldron recipe grid all read from that page. Change a value there once and it updates everywhere.

What you want to change Where to edit it
Stats, effect, rarity or region of an item, weapon or cauldron item; the ingredients of a recipe; the two weapons of a weapon modification Module:ItemData/data
Found in, itemsets, the tags shown in the infobox, pictures, the description, synergies, the list of changes The item's own page
Forge edges The edge's own page and the table on Forge Upgrades
Woodland items, Swampland items, Weapon modifications, Database, Cauldron recipe tables, the recipe grid Nothing. These lists update themselves.

Writing a stat or an effect in the item page's own infobox (|basestats=, |effect=, |rarity=, |region=) does nothing for items that are in Module:ItemData/data. The data always wins. Those fields are only used for removed items, which are no longer in the data.

Changing an item after a patch

  1. Open Module:ItemData/data and click Edit.
  2. Press Ctrl+F and search for the item's name. Each item is one line.
  3. Change the value and save.
  4. Record the change (see below).

For example, if a patch raised the Forge Hammer's attack from 4 to 5, this line:

	["Forge Hammer"] = {kind = "weapon", rarity = "common", region = "Swampland Yellow", world = "Swampland", stats = {attack = 4}, effect = "On Hit: Give the enemy 2 armor", haspage = true},

becomes:

	["Forge Hammer"] = {kind = "weapon", rarity = "common", region = "Swampland Yellow", world = "Swampland", stats = {attack = 5}, effect = "On Hit: Give the enemy 2 armor", haspage = true},

The item's page, every list it appears in and the database all show 5 from then on. It can take a few minutes for every page to catch up. To see the change on one page right away, add ?action=purge to the end of its address.

After a patch, also update the version number in the first line of the data page, for example (current version: 0.9.45).

Writing on the data page

The data page uses a simple format. A few rules keep it working:

  • Each item is one line: ["Item name"] = {field = value, field = value},. Don't forget the comma at the end.
  • Text goes in double quotes: effect = "On Hit: Gain 1 gold". If the text itself contains a double quote, write it as \". Apostrophes are fine as they are.
  • Numbers have no quotes, and can be negative: stats = {armor = 2, speed = -2}.
  • Lists go in curly brackets: tags = {"Food", "Water"}.
  • true and false have no quotes.
  • Keep the lines in alphabetical order so they are easy to find. The order doesn't change anything on the wiki.

If you make a mistake, the wiki won't save the page and shows the line with the problem. Nothing breaks.

To check a single item before saving, use the debug console under the edit box. Type for example =p["Forge Hammer"].stats.attack and press Enter. It shows the value from the text you're editing.

The fields

Field Meaning Example
kind "weapon", "item" or "cooked" (made at a Cauldron) kind = "item"
rarity "common", "rare", "heroic", "mythic", "cursed", or "weaponmod" for weapon modifications. Cauldron items have no rarity. rarity = "rare"
region The bundle the item comes in: "Woodland Red", "Woodland Blue", "Woodland Yellow", "Swampland Red", "Swampland Blue" or "Swampland Yellow". Leave it out for items that don't come in a bundle (mythic and cursed items, elixirs, weapon modifications, cauldron items). region = "Woodland Blue"
world The mode the item belongs to: "Woodland", "Swampland", "Kingmaker" (cauldron items made from one Woodland and one Swampland food) or "All" (candies, event items, starting sticks). This decides which item page lists it. world = "Swampland"
stats Base stats: attack, health, armor, speed. Use stats = {} for none. stats = {attack = 4, health = 5}
effect The effect, written like on the item page. Links such as Battle Start and colors such as armor work. Keywords get a hover tooltip automatically. Use "-" for no effect. effect = "Battle Start: Gain 3 armor"
tags The item's tags. These decide which section of the item pages the item goes in: Jewelry, Tome, Elixir and Food get their own sections. Leave it out if there are none. tags = {"Jewelry"}
ingredients Cauldron items only: the two foods that make it. ingredients = {"Clearspring Watermelon", "Poisonous Mushroom"}
ingredientRegions Cauldron items only: where each ingredient comes from, in the same order. Same values as region; a food found somewhere special can use wikitext instead. ingredientRegions = {"Swampland Yellow", "Beehive "}
components Weapon modifications only: the two weapons that make it. components = {"Razorthorn Spear", "Boom Stick"}
haspage true once the item has its own page. Items with false are left out of the lists, so a list never shows a red link. haspage = true
page Optional. Only needed when the item's page has a different name from the item. page = "Bomb (item)"

Recording a change

Players like to know what changed and when. When you change an item:

  • Add a row to the Changes table at the bottom of the item's page (create the section if it doesn't exist yet):
Changes
Date !! Changes
10/21/2026 || Attack increased from 4 to 5 (Bugfix 0.9.45)
  • If the patch isn't on Patches yet, add it there too.
  • If you notice a change that isn't in any patch notes, write (undocumented change) after it.

Adding a new item or weapon

1. Upload the pictures

Upload them on Special:Upload with exactly these names:

  • Example Ring.png: the small icon, used in lists and links.
  • Example Ring 16x.png: the large picture in the infobox.
  • For common items that can become gold and diamond: Example Ring Gold 16x.png and Example Ring Diamond 16x.png.

2. Create the page

Type the item's name in the search box, click the red link to create the page, and start from this:

<onlyinclude>{{Infobox_item/as
{}
hasupgrades  = true
name         = Example Ring
tags         = Jewelry
foundin      = Jewelry Box
itemsets     = -
}}</onlyinclude>

Example Ring is a common item found in the Jewelry Box in the Woodland region.

Changes
Date !! Changes
10/16/2026 || Added to the game (Patch #16)
  • Keep the <onlyinclude> tags and the |{} line exactly as they are. Lists use them to show the item's row.
  • Remove the hasupgrades line if the item has no gold and diamond versions.
  • You don't need basestats, effect, rarity or region: they come from the data line you add in the next step.

3. Add the item to the data

Add one line to Module:ItemData/data, in alphabetical order:

	["Example Ring"] = {kind = "item", rarity = "common", region = "Woodland Blue", world = "Woodland", stats = {}, effect = "Battle Start: Restore 3 health", tags = {"Jewelry"}, haspage = true},

That's it. The item now shows up with its infobox on its page, in the right section of Woodland items or Swampland items, and in the Database.

If the item comes from a special place (a boss, an event, a shop), mention it on that place's page as well.

Gold and diamond versions

Common items can be upgraded to gold and diamond (for example at a Large Golem), which doubles and then quadruples their numbers.

  • Pictures: set |hasupgrades = true on the item page and upload the gold and diamond pictures (see above).
  • Stats: with hasupgrades = true the infobox shows the stats as 2 / 4 / 8 by itself. Just write the base value in the data.
  • Effect: wrap the effect in Upgraded effect so the gold and diamond numbers are shown too:
effect = "{{Upgraded effect | {} | Battle Start: Restore 3 health |  | 3}}"

The parts are: {} (always the same), the base effect, the icon, and the base number. The template doubles and quadruples the number. For an effect with two numbers, add a second icon and number at the end. See Template:Upgraded effect for more.

If an upgrade doesn't simply double the numbers, write the effect out in full instead.

Adding a cauldron recipe

  1. Upload Example Stew.png and Example Stew 16x.png.
  2. Create the page:
<onlyinclude>{{Infobox_cooked_item/as
{}
name = Example Stew
tags = Food
}}</onlyinclude>

' is a food item created by combining and in a Cauldron .

Synergies
-
  1. Add one line to Module:ItemData/data:
	["Example Stew"] = {kind = "cooked", world = "Woodland", stats = {health = 4}, effect = "Turn Start: Gain 1 armor", tags = {"Food"}, ingredients = {"Sour Lemon", "Stone Steak"}, ingredientRegions = {"Woodland Yellow", "Woodland Red"}, haspage = true},

The ingredients, their regions, the stats and the effect then appear in the infobox. The recipe also shows up on the Cauldron page (in the full list and under each ingredient), in the recipe grid, in the Food Combined table of the item page, and in the Honeycomb column of the Food table if one of the ingredients is Honeycomb.

The world is Woodland when both ingredients are Woodland foods, Swampland when both are Swampland foods, and Kingmaker when one comes from each. Recipes made with a food from everywhere, such as Honeycomb, take the world of the other ingredient.

If a patch adds a brand-new food that can go in the cauldron, the grid adds a row and column for it by itself. On the Cauldron page, copy one of the blocks under By Ingredient and change the name in it.

Adding a weapon modification

Weapon modifications are weapons made by combining two weapons. Add them like a new weapon, with rarity = "weaponmod" and the two weapons in components:

	["Boom Spear"] = {kind = "weapon", rarity = "weaponmod", world = "Woodland", stats = {attack = 1}, effect = "On Hit: Gain 2 thorns and deal 2 damage", tags = {"Bomb"}, components = {"Razorthorn Spear", "Boom Stick"}, haspage = true},

It then appears on Weapon modifications and in the Weapon modifications section of the item page, with both weapons in the Combination column. When the two weapons come from different modes, use the world of either one; it's listed for both.

Adding a forge edge

Edges from the Forge are not in the item data, so they are added by hand in two places.

  1. Upload Example Edge.png and Example Edge 16x.png.
  2. Create the edge's page:
<onlyinclude>{{ForgeUpgrade | {}
name = Example Edge
image = Example Edge 16x.png
effect = Battle Start: Gain 1 armor
itemsets = --
}}</onlyinclude>
  1. On Forge Upgrades, copy a row of the table, change the name, picture, effect and region, and keep the rows in alphabetical order:
style="text-align:center;" |  || style="white-space:nowrap;" | Example Edge || Battle Start: Gain 1 armor  || Woodland Red

When an item is removed or renamed

Removed: first copy the item's last values into its own page (|basestats=, |effect=, |rarity=, |region=) so its infobox keeps showing them. Then delete its line from Module:ItemData/data; it disappears from the lists. Add a note at the top of the page saying in which patch it was removed.

Renamed: move the page to the new name with the page's Move option (leave a redirect behind so old links keep working), upload the pictures under the new name, and change the name at the start of its line in Module:ItemData/data. If it is an ingredient or a weapon modification component, search the data page for the old name and change those too.

Making your own lists

Any page can show a list of items that stays up to date by itself. Some examples:

Code Shows
All Woodland weapons
All bomb items
Every item whose effect mentions riptide
Every cauldron recipe with Honeycomb
How many weapons there are
One value of one item

The top of Module:ItemData lists every option.
