TI Fleet Manager/Detach and Recall
This page is part of the TI Fleet Manager mod.
With TI Fleet Manager a fleet can send parts of itself on separate missions without losing track of them. Detached units stay part of their home fleet's hierarchy and can be called back with one click.
Detach
Detach (map panel, next to a division or a squadron of the selected fleet) moves the unit's ships into a new fleet at the same place. Give the new fleet orders as usual, for example a transfer.
- The unit stays registered with its home fleet. There it is shown as [AWAY] (division) or [DETACHED] (squadron in the Hierarchy tab), and the ships keep their name suffix.
- The new fleet lists the unit under Detached from <home fleet>.
- Detaching works in a mothballed fleet too; it splits the reserve, see Reserve.
Split
Split is the detach button for visiting units: it splits a division (or a whole visiting squadron group) out of a detached fleet into another fleet. The fleet it came from remembers it, lists it as [AWAY] with a Recall button, and the split-off piece gets a → Sq button to rejoin it.
Splitting is limited to one level: a piece that was split off cannot be split again.
Standalone
Standalone (Hierarchy tab) cuts the tie to the home fleet completely - the unit becomes a fleet of its own that is home to itself.
- Squadron: its ships are split into a new fleet named after the squadron, for example 1. CruRon. If the squadron is already alone in its own fleet, that fleet is simply made its home and renamed. This is refused if the squadron's divisions are spread over several fleets - recall them first.
- Division: it moves into a new fleet and gets a new squadron of the same type there (next free number), as 1. Div. The fleet is named after its old unit, for example 1. LACRon-1. Div. A division from the INDRon gets an INDRon in the new fleet. Any trip home or split link is cleared.
Recall and return
| Button | Where | Brings back |
|---|---|---|
| Recall | home fleet, division row | that division |
| Recall | home fleet, squadron row | every division of the squadron that is away |
| Recall All | home fleet, action row | every unit of the fleet that is away (one trip per fleet they are in) |
| Return | visiting unit | that unit, to its home fleet |
| → Sq | unit that was split off | back to the detached fleet it was split from |
| Recall ([AWAY] piece) | detached fleet | undoes a split |
What happens
- Same place (both fleets can merge, for example docked at the same station): the ships rejoin at once.
- Elsewhere: if only part of a fleet is recalled, those ships are first split into their own fleet named [RTB] <name>. The mod then plans the trip home with the game's own trajectory planner and starts the transfer automatically. The units show [RTB] in the panel and [EN ROUTE] in the Hierarchy tab.
- The fleet needs at least 25 % of its delta-v left.
- The mod picks the cheapest trajectory and refuses trips that would use more than 90 % of the fleet's delta-v.
- If no trip is possible (not enough delta-v, no trajectory, too expensive, or the fleet is landed, in combat or already transferring), nothing happens and you have to fly the units home yourself.
- A recall into a mothballed fleet is refused, and units that sit in a mothballed fleet are not moved.
Merging on arrival
Vanilla never merges arriving fleets for human players. With the mod, units returning home merge with their home fleet by themselves when they arrive - no Merge click needed. Fleets that arrive for any other reason are never merged automatically.
- If the home fleet is busy at that moment (transferring, in combat, landed, bombarding), the mod tries again every day.
- If the home fleet has moved away, the mod sends the units after it.
- Merging them by hand with the vanilla Merge button also ends the trip.
- Cancelling the transfer with the vanilla Cancel button ends the trip home: the [RTB] tag and name prefix disappear and Recall is available again.
Fleet names
| Situation | Name | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Detached division | <fleet>-<squadron>-<division> | Alpha-1. LACRon-1. Div |
| Detached independent division | <fleet>-<division> | Alpha-2. Div |
| Detached squadron | <fleet>-<squadron> | Alpha-1. CruRon |
| Split-off piece | named after the squadron's home fleet | Alpha-1. LACRon-2. Div |
| Units on their way home | [RTB] + one of the names above | [RTB] Alpha-1. LACRon-1. Div |
| Standalone squadron / division | the unit's name | 1. CruRon / 1. LACRon-1. Div |
| Battlegroup | Battlegroup-N | Battlegroup-2 |
Battlegroups
A detached fleet that carries divisions of two or more squadrons is renamed Battlegroup-N (German: Kampfgruppe-N). N is the lowest free number of your faction (1-999); numbers are reused. When the fleet is back down to one squadron, it gets its normal detached name again.
- A home fleet is never renamed.
- A name you gave the fleet yourself is replaced once it carries two squadrons.
- Both the English and the German name are recognized when you switch the game language.
