TI Fleet Manager/Fleet Hierarchy

From Terra Invicta Official Wiki

This page is part of the TI Fleet Manager mod.

TI Fleet Manager organizes each of your fleets into a chain of command with four levels. This page explains the levels, the squadron types, how ships are sorted into them and how units are named. The buttons that change the hierarchy are described on Fleet Panel and Hierarchy Tab.

The four levels

Level Holds Limit Numbering
Fleet Squadrons No limit The normal vanilla fleet with its own name.
Squadron Divisions 4 divisions (up to 12 ships) Counted per faction and per type: 1. LACRon, 2. LACRon, 1. CruRon… (1-99).
Division Ships 3 ships 1-4 inside its squadron: 1. Div … 4. Div.
Ship - - Keeps its vanilla name and gets its unit as a suffix.

Ships that are not in any division are Unassigned. Every ship starts unassigned: in a new campaign, when it is built normally, and in saves from before the mod was installed.

When a number becomes free (a squadron is dissolved, a division is emptied), the lowest free number is used again for the next new unit.

Squadron types

Type Name Which ships Created by hand
LACRon Light Attack Craft squadron Monitor, Escort, Gunship, Destroyer, Corvette and Frigate hulls. With the Expanse Ships Mod also Phantom, UNPatrol, Tachi and Morrigan. Yes - + LACRon
CruRon Cruiser squadron Cruiser, Battlecruiser and Lancer hulls. With the Expanse Ships Mod also Scirocco. Yes - + CruRon
BatRon Battle squadron Battleship, Dreadnought and Titan hulls. With the Expanse Ships Mod also Donnager, Trueman and UNLeonidas. Yes - + BatRon
AuxRon Auxiliary squadron Chosen by the ship's role, not its hull: troop carriers, explorers, inner and outer system colony ships and councilor transports. A frigate built as an explorer therefore goes to the AuxRon. Yes - + AuxRon
INDRon Independent divisions Holding squadron for divisions that do not belong to a combat squadron. One per fleet, at most 4 divisions. Created and removed automatically; it cannot be dissolved or made standalone. No
BuildRon Ships under delivery Holding squadron for newly commissioned ships on their way to the fleet. One per fleet, at most 4 divisions. Only shown in the Hierarchy tab, not in the map panel. No

Classification rules

  • The ship's role is checked first: an auxiliary role always means AuxRon.
  • Otherwise the hull decides, using the table above.
  • A hull the mod does not know (for example from another mod) counts as a light ship and goes to a LACRon.
  • Roles such as army carriers or Earth surveillance ships are not auxiliary roles; these ships are sorted by their hull.

Auto-Organise

Auto-Organise (in the map panel and on each fleet row of the Hierarchy tab) sorts the unassigned ships of a fleet. It never moves ships that already have a division, so running it on an organized fleet changes nothing.

For each squadron type it fills, in this order:

  1. partly filled divisions of existing squadrons of that type, up to 3 ships;
  2. new divisions in existing squadrons that have fewer than 4 divisions;
  3. new squadrons with the next free number.

Example: 13 destroyers become one LACRon with four full divisions (12 ships) and a second LACRon with one division of 1 ship.

If you run it in a detached fleet, the new units are registered with the mother fleet - the fleet that most of the visiting divisions belong to. They then show as visitors in the detached fleet and as [AWAY] in the mother fleet.

Names

Ship names

Every assigned ship shows its unit after its name, everywhere in the game (ship lists, tooltips, the Fleets list, combat lists):

  • Valiant (1. CruRon | 2. Div) - a ship in a combat squadron;
  • Valiant (3. Div) - a ship in an independent division (INDRon);
  • Valiant - an unassigned ship.

The suffix changes immediately when the ship moves to another unit.

Unit names

  • Squadrons and divisions are named by number and type. They cannot be renamed.
  • Fleets keep their vanilla names and can be renamed with the vanilla edit button (also available on the fleet rows of the Hierarchy tab).
  • Detached fleets and battlegroups get automatic names, see Detach and Recall.

Clean-up rules

  • A division with no ships left disappears.
  • An empty INDRon or BuildRon disappears.
  • An empty combat squadron stays (with 0 ships) until you click Dissolve, so you can fill it again.
  • Destroyed ships leave their division; the other ships keep their suffix.
  • Splitting ships off with the vanilla Split button keeps their divisions: the new fleet shows them as visitors, and the original division shows [AWAY].
