A Bed is somewhere to sleep.
Clanfolk and Animals both need sleep to remain healthy, sleeping in a proper Bed is more restful than sleeping on the bare ground (leading to Clanfolk spending less time abed). Sleeping inside a Room is more restful again.
Every Bed type aside from the Zones require Straw to build. Most will also need other Ingredients for their construction.
Clanfolk
Beds may be owned by a particular Clanfellow if the player uses that feature. Nothing prevents the player from assigning multiple Beds to the same Clanfellow (which could leave another Clanfellow unable to find somewhere to sleep). When a married Clanfellow is assigned a Bed their partner will also be considered an owner. Some Visitors (Workers and Travellers) can also be granted ownership of a Bed, and will automatically void that ownership when leaving the Map.
Assigning a nursing mother and her baby to Beds away from other Clanfolk can reduce the disturbance that night feeds may cause those other Clanfolk.
In addition to the Attributes altered by the bed used (in table below), some Afflictions and Traits affect sleep.
- Private Room Affliction (+1500 Mood, +5/s Sleep, +4/s Satisfaction) may be gained if alone in a Room while sleeping. Sharing a bed with a spouse doesn't negate the Affliction, but using two single beds would.
- Disturbed Sleep Affliction (-2000 Mood, -4/s Sleep) will be inflicted if other Clanfolk or Animals move through the Room. This Affliction will also likely impact Clanfolk sleeping outside. The Heavy Sleeper Trait prevents this.
- Sleeping Outside Affliction (-500 Mood, -2/s Sleep) will be inflicted on any Clanfellow that is not sleeping inside a Room
- Having the Tireless Trait grants a permanent +2/s Sleep bonus.
- Having the Weary Trait inflicts a permanent -2/s Sleep penalty.
- Juveniles or Babies with Afraid of the Dark Trait will get the Darkness Fear Affliction (-1500 Mood, -1/s Sleep) unless the Bed is lit at least in part.
- Any Clanfellow that does not have the Afraid of the Dark Trait needs the bed to be unlit while sleeping to avoid the Too Bright Affliction (-1500 Mood, -1/s Sleep)

Animals
Animals do not ever own a bed, nor do they share, regardless of size. As such every tame animal should have a bed, but the player need only count, not assign beds. With each use of an Animal Bed degradation occurs and Straw must be used to replenish it after a set number of uses. (This will be done by a Clanfellow with sufficient Farming Skill priority as long as there is Straw available.)
If the beds are inside a Room (important for warmth during Winter) the Door Lock must be set to Animals level to allow the animals free access to the Room. N.B. Chickens will need a Critter Door as they cannot use any other doors.
