Cableways are a form of infrastructure in Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic.
Background
Cable-based transportation is a broad class of transportation modes that utilize cables to move people and goods.[1] These modes often involve vehicles called cable cars. The cable may be powered (driven) or unpowered (passive), and items may be transported via pulling, sliding, sailing, or by drives within the object itself as it moves along cableways. Common features of cable transport include the use of pulleys and balancing of loads that move up and down. This type of transportation is frequently employed in mountainous regions where cable haulage is capable of overcoming significant changes in elevation.
Gameplay
In game there are only driven type cable structures, requiring electricity for use if the game setting "Energy management" is enabled for buildings. Cable transportation is one of the cheapest infrastructure types in-game. Cableways were added to the game in version 0.8.0 with the release of Update #3.[2]
Cableways are an interesting but very limited solution when dealing with the delivery of resources or workers in areas with high differences in height. Buildings typically still require regular road connections for firefighting if the building fires setting is enabled. Similarly, when assessing the feasibility of using remote and inaccessible locations, cable transport has limited applications due to its small passenger and cargo capacity. They are better suited for manufacturing areas rather than raw resource collection, as ores may need faster transport due to their normally high production levels.
Structures
Cableway structures are divided into three classes: cables, poles, and stations.
- Cables link stations to poles; they are free to build and are required to operate cableways and move cable cars. Cables sag lower the further they are from another structure, requiring the use of poles to link stations that are very far.
- Poles can be used to extend the reach of stations and can move their lines up or down hills. The type of pole determines the type of cars that a cable station can support.
- Stations are the initial and final destinations of a cableway, and can be linked directly to storage areas with factory connections or aggregate connections.
Cables
Poles
Poles are divided into two categories with different height options. The taller the pole, the more expensive it is.

Power consumption and engine power
The only pieces of the infrastructure that consume power are the cableway stations. Its electricity is used to power both the building and the engines housed in these stations. Engine power influences the speed of movement of said cableway line. The bigger the station, the faster the line, making it able to sustain performance even with heavier loads or heavier infrastructure, such as heavy cableway pole and heavy cars.
Cable cars
Cable cars are divided into two types by use: passenger cars and cargo cars. They are further divided into heavy and light. These types of cars are defined by the type of poles used in the line. The size of the station only determines the capacity and movement speed.
- Light cars can be used in both heavy and light cableway poles. They are cheaper but have a smaller cargo capacity.
- Heavy cars can only be used with heavy cableway poles. They have a bigger cargo capacity but require special infrastructure, with more expensive poles.
Passenger cars
Passenger cars require either big or small cableway stations to transport workers to jobs, students to schools or university, and other passengers to leisure activities in the vicinity of their stations.

Cargo cars
Cargo cars can be used in any station, but these may require separate resource storages linked to the stations to transport the resources.

Cable car production
They are produced in Czechoslovakia and are purchased using rubles. They can also be produced at a vehicle production line facility. They are cheap on resources and quick to produce. Their licences are also usually not that expensive when compared with other production blueprints.
