volatilesVolatiles are a resource collected from Space Mining. They represent common non-water chemicals, especially gases (like nitrogen) or carbon-rich chemicals (like hydrocarbon fuels).

Volatiles are primarily used for crew upkeep on habs and for a number of commonly-used armors on spaceships. Smaller amounts are used to build and maintain a wide range of modules for habs and components for spaceships.

Volatiles are a moderately common resource, though they are scarce on Luna. Mars has them in abundance, however, as do a large number of asteroids and comets available in the early game.

If the player does not have enough volatiles in space, they can be purchased from Earth for 5 moneyMoney per unit and raised into space for boostBoost. As volatiles are very abundant on Earth, they have no sale value.
