Shards

Uses
Shards are used to buy permanent upgrades for the hero which persist between runs and play an important role in the global progression.
Additional starting resources can be bought throughout the 
Map
Units can have their ability unlocked when bought from the Witch for 100 × Shards each.
Orbs can be bought from the 
Mysterious Stone, which allow an exchange for one starting resource.
New Outpost options can be bought from the 
Cartographer.
