The Main Toolbar is where the player will give most commands from.
As the game begins (i.e. after Game Creation is complete and the player clicks Start) most of the buttons will be present in a bar starting at the bottom left of the screen, a small number are added as progress is made and things unlock from the Ideas listing.
Some of the buttons will bring up a secondary row of buttons for more commands, Some of the buttons bring up an overlay showing the relevant information. Select and current Coin are not buttons.
| Select | Buildings | Objects | Planting | Jobs | Stockpiles | Zones | Inventory | Task List | Ideas | Skills | Family Tree | Clans | Current Coin | |
- Select: returns the cursor to default use. Right click will often do the same.
- Buildings: Brings up a secondary Toolbar with four Building options (Floors, Walls, Roofs, Other), each of those will bring up a third Toolbar. Until Ideas unlock the player is simply shown second level buttons with no specific Floors etc. to build.
- Objects: Brings up a secondary Toolbar with various Object categories, each brings up a third level of buttons (Basic Needs, Crafting, ...) that expands as Ideas unlock. Only Basic Needs has options to start.
- Planting: Brings up three options (Soil, Crops, Trees) on a Sub Menu, largely unusable during Autumn / Winter as no planting is possible then.
- Jobs: Second level tool bar with 20 Jobs once all are discovered, only five are available at game start. Most unlock upon creation of a relevant Tool. Most can be unlocked on Day 1.
- Stockpiles: Designate tiles on the Map to be used for Storage by the Clanfolk. Or anti-storage with the two Blockers. Stockpiles don't always unlock with the first Item that could be stored in them (e.g. Tools Stockpile unlocks with the Stone Pick, even though the Sickle is made first.)
- Zones: Create Work or Home Zones for the Clanfolk, greatly curtailing how much of the Map the will travel over. Completely optional, often ignored, useful for fine control of Clanfellow home and work life.
- Inventory: Cycle through all Items of a particular type, allowing the player to find lost Tools, Clothes, etc. Also aides the player in adding to the top of screen Item listing. No Items "out in the wild" are added to the Inventory, they must be in a Storage or Stockpile first.
- Task List: Shows the player all Jobs that the Clanfolk have on their to-do listing. Ordered by which are considered most likely to be completed next. The icon will have a number on it showing the total count of pending Jobs. Auto-Jobs are also automatically added to the list as are tasks from Crafting Objects (e.g. Cook food).
- Ideas: Brings up an overlay screen showing the games analogue of a tech tree. Discovered Ideas are shown in colour, nearly discovered Ideas are greyed out and can be hovered over to show what else needs done. Other Ideas will be shown as a grey padlock.
Newly discovered ideas are shown in a column at left with a blue padlock on each. (When using Idea Points the icon has a progress bar underneath.) - Skills: Brings up a table of all (non-Baby) Clanfolk in the colony, including Workers. Each Clanfellow can have their priorities altered individually. And the player can see where each Skill is at across all Clanfolk, to try and ensure all Job types will get done.
- Family Tree: Shows an up to date version of the Family Tree that was displayed during Game Creation, with current ages, marriages, new children, etc. Also displays Clan Chief information.
- Clans: Shows the player the Reputation their colony has with each of the four neighbouring Clans. And what that means for Visitor likelihood.
- Current Coin: Displays the current Colony wealth. Relevant for dealing with the Visitors from other Clans (and Expeditions when active). N.B. No physical treasury exists on the Map.
The version 17 update to the game has added another button to the Toolbar.
Expeditions allows the player to temporarily send a Clanfellow away for a small span of days to try and find new technology or for other purpose on a World Map. Appears between Clans and Current Coin.
When playing with the Tutorial enabled the Toolbar is abbreviated at game start, buttons being added as progress happens.
