Jobs

From Clanfolk Official Wiki

Jobs are the orders the player can give their Clan.

In addition to "placing orders" at many Objects the player may directly place orders on the Map by using the Jobs button on the Main Toolbar. In neither case will the orders be for a specific Clanfellow unless Zones or Skills have been micromanaged.

Each Job can be placed on a single Map tile, or over a grid of tiles via click and drag. (A maximum box size exists. i.e. Even if the player was to try and select the entire map, only a portion would be selected.) Use of one Job on a tile may overwrite another. e.g. Should a tile have both Stones and Reed (common on the shoreline) one Job must be completed before the other can given if both are to be completed. The Clear All Job, when available, can prevent this issue.
Clicking on a tile can bring up a short Job listing of relevant possibilities. Allowing the player to quickly select a Tree to be cut down, or some Crops to be Harvested, etc. The cursor will also switch to that Job allowing more tiles to be marked.

When issuing Job orders the player may toggle a couple of options for more precision. Both options are just above the Job listing.

  • 100% Harvest Only: If selected will prevent Jobs being placed on tiles where more growth is possible. Allowing them to grow fully which is far more efficient. (Relevant to five Jobs: Harvest Crops, Gather Berries, Gather Branches, Pick Mushrooms, Clear Trees) Shift-Click can temporarily ensure this restriction if the button is off.
  • Smart Drag: Will restrict Harvest Crop Job orders to the same sort of Crop that the drag was begun on. If the first tile is empty this option does nothing.

Work Speed

The speed at which Jobs will be completed depends on a few factors.

  • Tool used: Stone Tools (60%) are slower than Iron Tools (80%) are slower than Steel Tools (100%). Other things being equal a Steel Tool will allow work to be done nearly twice as fast as a Stone Tool.
  • Worker Skill: A Clanfellow with a higher relevant Skill will be faster than one with a lower Skill.
  • Work Efficiency: An Attribute of the Clanfellow. Ranges from 50% (doubling the time taken) to 200% (Halving the time).

Complete Job listing

At the start of a game the player may give orders for only four of these Jobs; Gather Stones, Gather Branches, Gather Berries, Pick Mushrooms. Each of which can be done without needing any Tool use. As the Clan produces Tools further Jobs unlock, expanding the list until all are available.
Unlocking each job with multiple versions of the Tool is done when the simpler (Stone) version is first crafted. The Clan never loses the ability to do a Job, save temporarily if they have none of the required tools in supply. Stone tools have the slowest Work Speed, Steel has the highest (100%).

Auto Jobs

Four Jobs particularly related to Agriculture (Harvest Crops, Clear Stubble, Add Fertilizer, Add Water) have Auto-Job variants. These can be be accessed at the bottom right of the screen. Turning each off is possible, as it setting the Priority. If the player has instructed the Clan to grown Crops (listed at Planting) on Tilled Soil the game will automatically set the following Jobs:

  • Auto Water to Add Water to Crops that are dry (Rain can remove the automatically added job)
  • Auto Fertilizer to Fertilize Crops that aren't already
  • Auto Harvest Crops as they reach 100% growth
  • Clear Stubble to completely clear a field after reaping. Allowing the next planting.

When an Auto Job has been added it will show on the Field as a purple version of the normal icon with a cog in one corner. The player may choose to give such orders manually at different priorities. Manually given orders supersede the Auto-Jobs.
N.B. even though many of the Crops can be grown on bare Soil, those will never trigger Auto Jobs.
