Place the Mine next to natural resource deposits so workers can harvest them for use in other Buildings that make metals and other construction materials.

The Mine produces Low levels of pollution.

The Mine is unlocked after the Woodcutter produces 5 Wood for the first time.

Production

The Mine workers go to the nearest natural resource deposit and bring back an impure version of the resource and turn it into the usable Resource. The Mine can work deposits of Stone, Iron Ore, Copper Ore, and Sand.

The deposit will slowly run out of the resource. Once the Mine's deposit is empty and the last produced resource is picked up, you can demolish it or move it next to a different deposit. It does not have to be the same type of deposit.

Strategy

The Mine is an essential early Building, and prosperous settlements will likely have several, one at least for each of the main construction resources supply chains: Stone, Iron, Copper, and Sand.

The Mine's production speed is faster than the buildings that consume its output, and one can sufficiently supply a nearby Ore Smelter making Iron or Copper or a Metal Smelter making Glass.

The Mine is small, as is its Pollution level, so placing it among a Forest or two is sufficient to manage its pollution, provided there are trees around the deposit.

Later, an extra Mine on a deposit or some extra nearby Storage can help finish a nearly depleted deposit, allowing settlements to reclaim the valuable space after terraforming.
