Terraforming

From Beyond These Stars Official Wiki

Terraforming changes the Biome for the better for Peeps and for Kewa.

Raising and lowering the ground, channeling waterways, reforestation, and fertilizing the ground all improve the habitability of the whale's back, Kewa's health and happiness, and the Peeps' ability to expand and thrive.

Terraforming the crusted debris on the Whale's back is a core requirement of growing the main settlement.

Landscaping

The Landscaper is the first and primary Building for terraforming. Its workers go out to dig and build up the ground, creating the Debris resource to be stored or using stored Debris to stack on the ground to make new hills.

After creating a new landscaping job at the desired height, select it again to add more tiles to the same job, batching them together to finish altogether.

The Landscaper can store enough Debris for several projects, but it can get filled up and digging work cannot continue until the Debris is moved or used to build up the ground first.

Waterways

When workers dig next to water-flooded tiles, they create a barrier wall that holds the water back. Once the channel is dug, complete the job to release the water.

Batch tiles into a bigger job to make it easier to set the desired depth underwater and release the water into the entire channel.

Composting

The Compost Heap provides Compost to the Landscaper and its workers. Composting bare tiles turns them into fertile ground for Agriculture Buildings or Forests.

Compost is expensive and time-consuming to make. A steady supply of Wood Waste is the only means for early settlements, and a steady supply also creates other resources that are harder to get rid of or could overwhelm the settlement's storage.

Just like landscaping the ground, many tiles can be batched together into one composting job.

Note: Underwater tiles cannot be composted. If a tile with lily pads, cattails, or grasses is raised or lowered, those aesthetics cannot be replaced.

Foresting

The Tree Nursery provides Saplings to the Landscaper and its workers. Planting saplings grows a new Forest, which helps suppress pollution and expand the breathable atmosphere around the settlement.
