Steam valves, unlike Steam Pipe are directional. The valve, when clicked, will show the differential pressure between both sides of the valve. On this screen, you can set a value for when the valve should be open or closed.
Essentially, if Steam pressure falls too low, the valve will close, cutting off steam consumers on the other side. This can be helpful for ensuring steam is available to critical systems during a shortage.
If enough steam is available, there may not be a good use scenario for Steam Valves, except for an emergency backup for an unexpected shortage.
