The Steam Radiator no longer requires fuel to operate (although it is burned at the Steam Boilers). These are the most efficient heaters you can currently get. Retrofitting your colony to use Steam Boilers is a challenge as you will need to run Steam Pipe to each and every one of them and provide continuous steam to them during any days where the temperature is less than or equal to 10 C. The Steam Boiler is the same size as the Bonfire; however, it connects to Steam Pipe on one of its sides which makes it take up at least 2 horizonal tiles in actual operation. You may have to adjust the placement of Steam Radiators from where Bonfires or Heating Stoves were previously located to accommodate the steam line.
Steam radiators provide heat out to 7 tiles (red) with an additional 2 tiles of moderate warmth (yellow). The Steam Radiator has a 3-tile radius of "maximum warmth" (dark red) which makes it powerful enough to provide heat through one tile of ground. This can be used to heat mushroom farms from above or your colony from below. Using "Overdrive" will improve the heating of the heater by 2 tiles overall (dark red, red, and yellow will all move out 2 tiles - for a maximum increased range of 2 overall). This will cost you double the steam consumption rate for the Steam Radiator on which it is activated.
Fire Tenders are no longer required for Steam Radiators but will be needed to supply the Steam Boilers. When replacing Bonfires and Heating Stoves with Steam Radiators, make sure to remove your old Fire Tender infrastructure if it is no longer needed.
