Basic blockhouse for two. 3x1x2 (L shape)

This is one of the first options for housing that provides housing for two Whiskers. It takes up 5 tiles (2 more than a Plank Abode or Log Cabin) in a vertical format. The entrance is still on the ground floor, so no additional infrastructure is needed for Whiskers to access the building when placed at ground level.

This is a very space efficient building and can often help squeeze additional housing into tight places. Be careful when placing numerous Plank Rowhouses side-by-side as this may create infrastructure issues for you. The extra space the other housing types leave near their entrance usually ensures spots for decorative items, stairs to 2nd floor buildings, heaters, etc. Tightly placed Plank Rowhouses will not provide these nooks for you, so you will need to plan ahead.

The Plank Rowhouse can be problematic for Whiskers with the loner or snoring trait. Whiskers self house on recruitment and generally avoid creating negative thought problems if appropriate housing is available. You may want to periodically check the End of Day report for negative thoughts like disturbed sleep to see if you have any rogue snorers bunked up with anyone else. Alternatively, avoid recruiting Whiskers with this trait if you plan to use this house type. Whiskers can be manually reassigned to other houses to fix compatibility issues, but this usually is not required.

The Plank Rowhouse can be directly upgraded to the Stone Rowhouse once that technology has been unlocked. If you are able to upgrade a Plank Rowhouse, a button will appear to pay the differential cost when selecting any Plank Rowhouse. It costs 21 cut stone and a few seconds to upgrade a Plank Rowhouse to a Stone Rowhouse. Builders are not required to perform the upgrade and occupants are not displaced in the process.
