Active Radar Seekers employ a small forward facing radar emitter & receiver in order to search for targets. These use the same Radar Cross Section mechanics as other search radars, such as the Frontline. As of the missile update all RADAR based missiles prefer to select targets in the center of their FOV (Targets on the edge of the seeker cone are 50% less likely to be chosen as a target). Active Radar seekers come in three varieties which have different ranges and search cones; Fixed Active Radar, Steerable Active Radar, and Steerable Extended Active Radar. Steerable seekers with conical scan will continuously rotate their search cones in a counterclockwise circle (from the perspective of the missile forward) at their max steer angle.

Active radar seekers find targets by sending out bursts of radio waves and listening for the return. Their major advantage is that they allow missiles to be fully autonomous, without the need of any other platform to guide them in for the kill. Unfortunately, active seekers without backup are also easy to decoy and jam.

Fixed seekers are locked to only covering 20 degrees forward in either direction from the missile's centerline.
