Component:tals-2-talisman-launcher

From NEBULOUS: Fleet Command Official Wiki

In Game Description

Swinging arm launchers are an antiquated missile launcher design which saw brief use across the alliance fleet before the adoption of the now-ubiquitous vertical launching systems. This style of launcher features a turreted arm which aligns with a magazine access hatch in the base to load a single missile, then points at the target before firing.

The TALS-2 launcher can fire up to two misiles at a time, and draws its ammunition from the ship's internal storage.

Notes

-Will enforce hot launch upon whatever missile is fired, regardless of it's configuration

-If configured to only fire within limits, the launcher can fire slightly below minimum depression by allowing the missile to turn after launch to the ordered angle like other launchers, as long as the ordered point is above ~0 degrees elevation and in line of sight. The existence of a vertical blindspot does prohibit fire at extremely high angles as well (>85 degrees), which does not share this behaviour.

-Unlike other launchers such as MLS, VLS, TLS etc. The TALS will always sit in a "unloaded" state. Upon being ordered to fire, it will:

1: Program the missile (Defensively fired missiles may be instantly programmed like with other launchers)

2: Spend approx. 3.5s loading the missile, which always sets the launcher to a near-vertical position when complete

3: Train the missile from it's loading position then fire.

Note: it will not begin step 1 until it is "in arc" if configured to fire only within limits.

-Unlike the SALS, the TALS arms and launches 2 missiles at once. It can fire two different missiles, and/or at two different directions at once, however it cannot load while aiming-to-fire, and if launching two missiles in different directions simultaneously, it will release both at the first assigned fire direction, leaving the second missile to turn towards it's target.

For some reason, when ordered to fire 4 or more missiles, it will fire missiles in salvoes of 2-1-2-1-2-1 etc. This may have to do with missiles programming in offset fashion thanks to the slightly sequential fire, unknown. It seems based on rate of fire that missiles will simultaneously program while others are launching.

Lore

A brilliant blue trail weaves away from the bow of the Emperor Reverse, followed by a second intertwining with the first. Vance watches from the bridge, her eyes switching from the battlespace map to the bridge windows. "Damn, look at that! Already loaded for another launch," she exclaims, a small grin on her lips.

Amelie nods, bringing her eyes down to her data-tablet. "At a slight increase to cost, of course. The Ward's reliability has the Otdel very eager, so, naturally, your ship will get the first batch," she replies, watching as two flashes of fire blink in and out of existence. "Impact. Target drones destroyed," Stratis calls from the ship's PA. Vance glances to Constantine standing by her side, noting his sour expression, his glasses reflecting the snowy surface of Goguen. With a slight roll of her shoulders, Vance keys her wristcomp.

"Confirmed that. CIC on stand-by," she replies. Without looking, Vance addresses Constantine. "So thoughts? Have we won the war yet?"

Constantine grumbles, hands behind his back. "This is far better than the Alliance's VLS-1, but how will they respond? What door are we opening for them?" His jaw tightens as vance and Amelie awkwardly shift in place, unable to conjure a reply. With a huff, he gives a dismissive wave and turns to leave. "Tell Hotz he has my approval, fit the Emperor Reverse immediately."

The two watch as the Admiral disappears from view, the hatch sliding shut with a clank. Vance makes a quiet whistle, rubbing the back of her neck.

"Well, at least the war's going good on our end, right?"

  1. ↑ Missile Launchers cannot use missiles smaller than their size.
  2. ↑ Approximately 3.5 seconds.
  3. ↑ at a visual estimate, the launcher has a maximum elevation of approximately 85 degrees, and a minimum elevation of approximately 15-25 degrees.
