In Game Description

Damage Control lockers provide a warship with teams capable of repairing ship components and restoring destroyed modules or compartments back into working order.

Each locker allows a certain number of restorations for destroyed modules or components, but destruction of a DC locker will completely remove all available restorations.[1] This compartment is reinforced to make it more likely restorations will remain available after a big hit.

Gameplay usage

Compared to other DC, Reinforced DC are functionally identical to Small DC, but are significantly tougher, coming at the expense of more cost, and size, and meaning they are the same per-slot, but worse per-point than any other DC except in having a Restore unlike Rapids, and Repair speed over (OSP) Large DC Storage. They are typically best on any ship with an Integrity-rating over 30%,[2] They also may be used for "shielding" components further inside a ship, such as bow tanking, using the 'Reinforced' tag to repeatedly take and repair lethal hits. If doing so, the "Low" DC priority should be worked around by manually tasking DC to keep the Reinforced DC alive.

Lore

Nobody messes with the damage controlmen or their tools. When the ship starts taking fire and pipes are bursting open, everybody gets out of the way when the rattling of tools and heavy boots storm down the pasageways.

Outside of combat, the hatches to the lockers tend to remain closed, giving the lockers an aura of mystery that ensigns are always wanting to peek into, especially when there's loud clanging and inaudible shouting coming from behind it. Best not to look too deep into it, there's talk they perform demonic rituals in there.

  1. ↑ if a destroyed DC locker is restored, the remaining stored Restores will become available again.
  2. ↑ Which will reduce common 50-damage HEI rays of all missiles except for rockets, bombs, and mines below the DT35, meaning that a reinforced DC on for example, an Axford, can be fired upon by an infinite amount of S2s ((a ship cannot actually survive this by other means such as total DC death or unsolvable catastrophic criticals, this is a rhetorical example)) and still have restores available, which can then for example restore other destroyed Large DCs / DC Storages on the ship and retrieve their Restores in turn.
