Component:mk-95-sarissa-pdt
In Game Description
The Mk95 'Sarissa' is the Alliance's answer to the difficulty of hitting modern multi-stage missiles after the sprint vehicle separates. This long-range point defense system allows individual missiles to be engaged at extreme range, before they are able to enter their terminal sprint phase and are thus easy pickings.
This weapon fires a minuscule projectile at high velocities which can easily destroy an unprotected target like a missile. Unfortunately, the small size means the projectile will simply vaporize itself against the armored hull of a warship and cause minimal damage.
In-Game Use
Amazing at killing craft and decent against hybrids outside their sprint phase, while acceptable against torpedoes and poor against massive strikes.

Lore
Pride of Winchester's personal engineering bureau, so that should give you an idea of how utterly expensive it was to produce and how many development teams were slated for 'rotation' out into the Vacation Planet after the usual Naval Office troubles. The Sarissa is pretty new when you compare it to the other options on the roster, but that isn't going to stop the Brass from deploying it in spades.
This is a case where a simple idea on paper- a coilgun firing cases of crunched up tungsten- becomes an engineering nightmare and nobody has any idea what they're doing or how to actually service it, but damn it, we'll try. Even with the shotgun-style sabot cans, the long-range potential here just cannot be beat, even by the Aurora's standards. Not the fastest rate of fire in class, but that's not really a problem when you got the range advantage.
