Lore

Fleet Admiral Reinecke's carrier plan blazed through the ANO in only a few Shelter-months and it was already making waves through the fleets before it was officially ratified. Wish the ANO showed that kind of initiative when the Graznovians were gearing up for war.

As much as I talk about them, I'm not sure anybody still remembers the Graznovians these days, it was a very weird situation. A lot of wargear and tech came into existence during the weekly operation only to die in the next weekly operation - but I guess it was a poetic irony that the first serious use of naval spacecraft carriers in the Cluster would come from the 'Novians losing most of their own during Operation Harvest Sweep. Something about that must have made the ANO think 'we can do better than that', so here comes a whole new doctrine of Alliance naval warfare and the Cluster has just never really been the same.

Shelter doctrine used to just be about laying down as much heavy ordinance as possible downrange, but when you're fighting in a cloud of uncaring rocks, that kind of doctrine falls apart fast when all the shells just hit asteroids, and that doesn't look good on the AARs. Now it's all about tactical precision strieks from Tantos or hotshot trailblazing from Barracudas ambushing a hapless Raines.

War's always a great innovator.

  1. ↑ On all ships of ANS make this never comes up; any such ship that can equip these mounted hangars cannot equip internal hangars, and vice versa
