From NEBULOUS: Fleet Command Official Wiki

In Game Description

A risky proposition that would never be taken seriously anywhere but the Protectorate's desperate Navy, the Jury-Rigged Reactor takes advantage of the cavernous spaces of freighters to wedge an entire reactor inside and boost otherwise-strained power generation capacity. However, because these compartments were never meant to contain such equipment, there is essentially no safety equipment and the risk of catastrophic failure is high.

In Game Performance

Once you discover how the reactor scram button works on the DC board, the downsides of this compartment the blurb warns you about can be ignored.

Lore

Their prize waits through the next hatch. With a thump, Lieutenant Meadows plants her back to the wall, her armor making a clank as ceramic contacts metal. She's followed by her team, two filling in behind her and another, the breacher, taking the opposite side of the hatch. Quickly, she scans the team for any sign of trouble, determining that everything- so far- was going by the book. Her eyes glance to the breacher as Meadows reaches out, testing the hatch's handle. She nods and the team shoulders their carbines as Meadows backs away slightly, giving the breacher a nod.

The breacher reaches into his thigh-bag, producing a small, hexagonal charge and secures it to the hatch plate, prompting the squad to brace themselves as Meadows gives a hand signal. With a thunderous bang, the charge detonates towards the hatch, bulging the metal inwards and sending it swinging open with a metallic screech. In the smoke and sparks, the squad pours into the bow cargo bay, the lights on their carbines sweeping the darkened compartment and pointing out the bodies of crew casualties- no soul survived the concussion from the engagement.

Meadows angles her carbine towards the center of the compartment, the light glinting off a dull blued metal. Slowly, she trails her weapon upwards, taking in a sharp inhale as she scans the silhouette. It's the largest reactor she's ever seen on a liner; a Tsunami Starlight, nearly reaching the ceiling of the cavernous bay and wrapped in a web of thick power lines still crackling with dangerous arcs of fusion, no shielding, no safeties- this isn't a reactor, it's a bomb waiting to go off.
