In Game Description

The Combat Information Center (CIC) is the central command hub that provides command and control for the warship, and is critical in the operation of the vessel during an engagement. This compartment is heavily reinforced and resistant to damage.

This CIC also features a workspace for a small team of intelligence analysts to speed up target identification and do basic battle damage assessment, though they lack the ability to process tracks from the rest of the fleet.

Destruction of the CIC results in a loss of command and the affected warship cannot receive commands[1] until the CIC is repaired.

Gameplay usage

Most ships have an identification difficulty of 200 (300 on the Marauder, Moorline, Moorline refit, and civilian bulk hauler). A Citadel CIC reveals type in 50 seconds on difficulty 200, and full identity in 200 seconds. If a ship has no CIC and/or no restores for any broken CICs, it will be abandoned by crew. The Citadel's extremely high cost and not very significant increase in damage threshold means it is very rarely picked. Additionally, as DC teams repair at a flat HP/S rate, this CIC's increased health means it will take longer to restore command from damage that pushed it below a non-functioning level.

Lore

When the Solomon-class rolled out of Falke-Tethys, the first thing Vice Admiral Sullivan Hauer set out to do was to strongarm the Naval Office into spending a little more of the budget in supplying warship armor. By this point, there had been a, frankly, worrying number of accidents involving errant asteroids and fightercraft strafing the CIC.

Pretty soon, capital ships started to be armored up in what we called "citadels", reinforced and given extra room for some intel teams to quickly give reports to command.

Never improved on the lighting situation, though.

  1. ↑ DC crews will still receive orders regardless of the command state of a ship.
