Promotions and Demotions
Promotions and demotions are actions performed by the player to promote or demote a squad leader (SL) or pilot. Promoting a character does not happen automatically and costs promotion points.
The cost of promoting the same character increases with each promotion.
Ranks
Characters can hold one of eight ranks, ranging from (1) Lance Corporal to (8) Master Gunnery Sergeant.

Promotion
Promotion Points
Promotion points can be earned in the following ways:[1]
- Completing missions
- Fulfilling bonus objectives
- Exceeding mission requirements
- Completing events
The higher the Mission Rating, the more promotion points you will receive for completing that mission. The game rewards you with promotion points for each individual mission, so even if you fail an operation, you will still gain promotion points.
Demotion
If absolutely necessary, a character can be demoted down to a lower rank, which refunds some of the promotion points they had used. However, only a small portion of those points will be refunded, and the character will be displeased, so you should try to avoid demotions as much as possible. [2]
