Warp Gate

Little is known of them at the moment, but Warp Gates apparently provide Faster-Than-Light travel to all the known systems in human space. The only thing certain for now is that the Gate leading to the Wayback System has been damaged, meaning that ships can enter the system, but they cannot leave. [1]

Some information about the Gates can be gathered from loading screen quotes in the demo. One quote from an unknown speaker states "Sy Corp has suggested opening a path into the Wayback without an exit-gate. I’d like to remind people that, absent an exit-gate, the kinetic energy of what comes out might decimate the locals, to put it lightly." Another "unknown businessman" said "We could ‘conquer’ the Wayback by blasting into it with an untethered warp, then just send in the hoovers to gather up whatever’s left of the planets. A diamond in the rough is still worth the same floating in space, after all." This indicates that the purpose of the Warp Gates is to render Faster Than Light travel safe for both the travelers and their destination, with the tech being able to completely demolish entire planets without the "tethering" provided by the Gates.
