Strategy: Prepare non-weapon damage. Black Knight's attack is set only once, after your Battle Start effects.

Try freezing yourself: Iceblock Shield combined with any 1-damage weapon will set you to 0 and him to 2. If your weapon is Razorthorn Spear you'll have done 1 + 2 * 2 = 7 damage in the time that he has done 6 damage.

Other useful Commons include Heart Drinker, Horned Helmet, Ironstone Bracelet, Cherry Bomb, Spiny Chestnut, and Cracked Whetstone.

Alternatively, if you collect the itemset Hero's Return, you'll outrace the Knight and survive with 1 health.
