Damaging Effect

From Empires of the Undergrowth Official Wiki

This page shows the mechanics of damaging effects.

Mechanics

Effect damage also goes through damage calculation and modifcation like attack damage. Effect damage can have different type from attack damage and isn't affected by splash reduction.

Damaging effects can only be inflicted on enemies.

Damage-over-time

Affected creatures will take extra effect damage after the initial attack damage. Effect damage is inflicted after each set amount of time until the duration of the effect is over.

Damage-over-time effects can be displayed differently.

  • Bleeding creatures are surrounded by splashing hemolymph. Damage is physical.
  • Poisoned creatures are surrounded by green cloud. Damage is venom.

Each creature can be inflicted with the same damage-over-time effect multiple times at once and the effects can be stacked in value.

Physical Venom

Examples

The attacker inficts 50 physical damage initially. It also inflicts 10 venom damage every 0.5 second over 2 seconds afterward.

The defender has 20% physical resistance and 10% venom resistance.

=> Attack damage = 50 x (1 - 0.2) = 40

=> Effect damage = 10 x (1 - 0.1) x 2 / 0.5 = 36

=> Final damage = 40 + 36 = 76

If the defender can only take maximum 5 damage per hit, the final damage becomes: 5 + 5 x 2 / 0.5 = 25.

Damage reflection

Affected creatures can inflict a percentage of taken damage on the respective attacking enemies each time they are hit.

Reflecting damage is calculated before maximum taken damage is applied.

Damage reflection isn't triggered by projectile damage or effect damage. It isn't triggered when the user is dead. It can affect mounting enemies.

Creatures with thorn resistance can reduce reflecting damage by a certain percentage.

  • Sharp

Examples

The attacker inficts 50 physical damage. It also has 10% physical resistance.

The defender reflects 50% of taken damage back to the attacker. It also has 20% physical resistance and can only take maximum 5 damage per hit.

=> Attack damage = 50 x (1 - 0.2) = 40

=> Reflecting damage = 40 x 0.5 x (1 - 0.1) = 18

The defender only takes 5 damage while the attacker takes 18 damage.

Trivia

  • The playable spider is the only creature in the game that can reduce incoming damage from reflection.
