Trader
A Trader is a Clanfellow engaged in commerce.
With the construction of a
Trading Post (unlocked by building the Vacancy Sign) the player Clan may then be visited by Traders aiming to buy and sell various Items, as well as Livestock or Pets. Only four different Clans will send representatives to the player colony for trade, each from a different cardinal direction, and each will be from a different Biome. The four different Biomes have different trading priorities and will be interested in buying different things, as well as bringing different things to sell. (e.g. only Forest Traders will buy Wool items, and only the Mountain Traders will sell such. Coast and Plains Traders do not care.)
- Few Items will be purchased by more than a couple of the Clans; Chickens, Nails, Planks, Smoked Fish, are all desired by three Clans. Nothing aside from Gold Ingots will be purchased by all four.
- Almost no Items will be sold by more than one Clan, none by more than two. Of those sold by two, only Bluebell, Heather, and Dry Peat Bricks don't also require Reputation gain.
Visitation from Traders fluctuates with the Seasons and becomes more frequent as Reputation improves.
Trading process
After a Trader arrives at the Post a bell will ring to let the player know they can engage in Trade. The Display of Clanfolk above the Main Toolbar will also display Traders from the point they enter the Map so the player may have advance warning. When bringing Livestock or Pets to sell, those Animals will be present on the Map following the Trader. All other Items for sale are not displayed (the Trader has no carry limit and have multiple stacks of many items). Interacting with a Trader before they reach the Post is possible but may be unwise.
Upon clicking on the Trader (which will pause the game) an Infobox is displayed as happens with each Clanfellow of the player Clan, but less detail is present on the main boxes. Two additional rows of Items are displayed however, the upper showing what the Trader is willing to sell and the lower what Items from the Inventory they would purchase. Prices for all Items are shown with coin cost per stack, or just coin cost when a single Item is sold (most commonly animals and clothing). Multiple boxes may be shown if the Trader has multiple stacks worth of an Item.
Any Item purchased is dropped near the Trader and will not be hauled until the game unpauses. Any sold Item will be displayed in the row of Trader items and can be purchased back if an error was made. As the Trader and Player Clan both have limited Coin some of the Items on either row may be greyed out.
Once the Trade is complete and the game unpauses the newly purchased Items may be added to the Hauling task list. If the Trader was close enough to applicable Storage Objects or Stockpiles the new Items might have been stored automatically. Having the Post in a location that is sheltered from the Rain and with good Environment can also be wise as it wil increase the Reputation gain beyond what the traded Items gains.
When the player Clan has achieved a higher Reputation with another Clan those Traders will start bringing more valuable Items, and will have more Coin to spend buying Items.
| Stars | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Reputation | 0-99 | 100-349 | 350-849 | 850-1849 | 1850+ |
| Coin available | 200 c | 300 c | 500 c | 750 c | 1000 c |
As multiple Traders may arrive each day, and can be from different Clnas, the player may be able to buy Items from one Clan and immediately sell them to another. Gaining Reputation with both Clans and spending only time to make the transaction. (Buying Stones from a Mountains Trader and selling them to a Coast Trader is one easily managed trade.)
What can be traded
Trading prices for Animals may fluctuate depending on Care level of the animal and its age (potential profit can be made buying low care animals and selling after improving their Care Attribute). Prices given are for well cared for adults of each gender, females are always more expensive.
Prices of other items may alter depending on Season
An Empty Star indicates possible sale from first Trader visit, Solid Stars indicate Reputation Level required for sale.
Items that have been noted as of no interest to any Traders of any Biome (even at 4 stars of Reputation) are shown on a second table below. (e.g. Straw Clothing and Stone Tools)
Items not yet fully tested for values / biomes / reputation etc. are in a final table at the end of the page.
Some Items are repriced between release versions
update 17? items
These need testing for values, clans that will buy/sell, and is not an exhaustive list of "new" items.
