Revision as of 13:19, 26 June 2025
An Animal is a non-Clanfolk animate life form.
In the Clanfolk game there are three categories of Animal. (Technically a Clanfellow is an Animal as well but won't be considered such here.)
- Wildlife: found on the Map, may be hunted for Food, and typically scared of even a single Clanfellow so they run away when approached.
- Livestock: Animals owned by the Clanfolk and typically raised to provide Food (Meat, Milk, Eggs), for the Clan.
- Pets: Animals typically kept in the homes, that are not treated as a food source (although can be eaten if needed).
If two opposite-gendered animals of the same species spend time near each other, the female may get pregnant (Chickens lay eggs that may be fertilised). Because pregnancy leads to more animals the female of each species is considered more valuable.
Attributes
All animals have a variety of Attributes that will be displayed when the player clicks on the animal. Not all Attributes are present on all Animals.
- Age: Different animals will have different lifespans
- Health:
- Food:
- Water:
- Care: Pets and Livestock only, Same effects as Mood for Clanfellows.
- Manure: Livestock only, When it reaches 100 the animal will produce Manure.
- Milk: Female Cattle and Goats only
- Wool: Sheep only
- Instinct: Cats only, how much do they need to go kill a Rat etc.
Wildlife
The amount of Wild Animals on the Map is influenced by a slider at Game Creation, the amount of Hunting the player has instructed their Clanfolk to partake in, and how much food the animals have available (insufficient food leads to animals leaving the map).
| Animal | Notes | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pluck | ||||
| Rat | 2 | 0 | 0 | Spawn after plants get harvested. Will cause stored food to spoil quicker. Can move under doors. |
| Bunny | 5 | 2 | 0 | Found around Bunny Holes which function as tunnel ends. Will eat Grass around the hole. |
| Fox ( Vixen / Tod ) | 8 | 3 | ? | Hunt Bunnies, and then Chickens. |
| Wild Cat ( Queen / Tom ) | 8 | 3 | ? | Can be tamed to become pets. Will hunt Bunnies. |
| Deer ( Hind / Stag ) | 50 | 12 | 8 | Make one of the animal noises most easily hear on the Map. Depart the Map if Grass becomes sparse. |
| Wolf | 20 | 6 | ? | Will hunt almost any other animal. Run away from Clanfolk and/or Deerhoundss. |
| Beaver | 20 | 6 | ? | Only animal to live in water (Lakes). Replant Reeds |
Livestock
Livestock can only be obtained at the start of the game or purchased from Traders (once Reputation increases enough). To remain healthy during Winter they require Food, Water, and Shelter, from the Clanfolk. During the other seasons they can eat Grass and drink Water from Lakes on their own.
Without access to Animal Beds there will be no pregnancy or Egg Laying.
Most Livestock live 5 days as Baby, 10 days as Juvenile, 48-72 days as Adult, and 4-5 days as Senior.
Chickens have 2 days as Fertilised eggs, 3 as Baby Chicks, 7 as Pullets, and 24-36 days as Adults.
Pets
- Tame Cats: May be obtained at Game Creation or from Traders. They may also be tamed from Wild Cats on the Map by using Pet Food Bowls. While in the colony they will hunt Rats, reducing Food degradation. Even if fed by the Clanfolk they will likely still hunt based on an Instinct bar shown in their stats box.
- Deerhound: May be obtained at Game Creation, or from Traders. Are useful for protecting Livestock from aggressive Wildlife like a Fox or Wolf that might try and kill Chickens etc.
