The Biome describes the habitable and uninhabitable space and overall health of Kewa. The Peeps' arrival, terraforming, and especially Pollution have significant effects on the Biome and therefore Kewa's health and happiness.

The overall health of the Whale's biome is a measure of how many Fertile tiles exist, how many Flooded tiles exist, and how many Forests that are contributing to the atmosphere exist. A very healthy biome has mostly Fertile or Flooded tiles and enough Forests that all playable tiles are within the range of the atmosphere.

Fertility

Four types of soil and how it affects forests.

The health of the Biome is represented best by the fertility of the space. The more fertile tiles Kewa has, the healthier they are, and the more the Peeps can do with the space, for example with Agriculture Buildings.

Conditions

Tiles can be any combination of the following conditions (as seen on their info card under Condition):

  • Watered or Dry
  • Dirt or Bare
  • Breathable or not

If a tile is both Watered and Dirt, it automatically becomes Fertile. Ideal tile conditions are "Fertile and Breathable," which is where Forests can grow trees and Peeps can live and grow Resources.

Through terraforming, Peeps can convert bare ground into dirt through composting, dry ground into watered ground through channeling water, and not breathable areas into breathable by planting or watering forests.

Kewa's health and happiness increases by increasing the total amount of fertile ground.

Atmosphere

A single forest generates atmosphere 4 tiles away.

Atmosphere comes from watered Forests. The most impactful way for Peeps to expand their livable space is by digging channels for water to flow into new places, thereby reviving the dead Forest in those areas. Second, Peeps can plant new Forest near the edge of the habitable zone. Both are accomplished through terraforming.
