Forests are the most important natural resource to the Peeps, because they provide the breathable atmosphere that Peeps require to live. Forests are also the source of Wood, and they are every settlement's first line of defense against Pollution.

Forests are the source of breathable atmosphere on the Whale's back. A single Forest tile has a circular range of four tiles, both for cleaning pollution and producing atmosphere. When producing atmosphere, a cluster of Forest tiles can have ranges up to double the size.

Forests, water, and air

Main article: Biome

When the Peeps first arrive, they land near the water coming from Kewa's glacier. The Forests around this water are watered, and they are providing breathable atmosphere for the Peeps' settlement. Most of the Forests, however, are dry. Dry Forests do not provide a breathable environment.

By unblocking the river on their way to nearby Copper, the new water flows farther, changing the condition of the ground, reviving many more Forests, and greatly expanding the atmosphere around the settlement.

By continuing their terraforming of Kewa, the Peeps can divert more water, revive all the Forest, plant more, and expand the atmosphere even farther.

Expanding the water and atmosphere makes Kewa happy and increases their health.

Fighting pollution

Each Forest slowly absorbs Pollution in nearby tiles. Several Forests around a Building with even a high pollution level may be able to keep up with the building's pollution, without a Cleaner being necessary.

See the section on prevention on the pollution article for examples.

Planting

Main article: Terraforming

The Tree Nursery produces Saplings from Compost, allowing workers in the Landscaper to plant new Forests wherever desired. This allows settlements with growing industry to build up Forest around their worst polluters, preventing worsening conditions and allowing workers to spend less time working in Cleaners.
