The Woodcutter is the first Construction building to go up in a settlement, providing essential access to Wood and Wood Waste.
The Woodcutter produces None levels of pollution.
The Woodcutter is pointed out as soon as the settlement builds its first Huts and Potato Patches, but is technically unlocked from the beginning.
Production
The Woodcutter worker goes out to nearby Forest to cut Trunks and converts them to Wood and Wood Waste.
The Woodcutter never overharvests the Forests; they will always grow back. Instead, a Woodcutter without sufficient nearby Forests will sit idle until there are trees again to cut.
Adjacency effects
5x Forests, surrounded all around except the incoming road
- + 30% storage
Another Woodcutter
- - 20% production speed
Strategy
Ideally, settlements begin with a few Woodcutters nestled into clusters of trees where they can be completely surrounded. Even if they end up being a ways away, building a handful of Woodcutters in a well-populated settlement means not just a steady supply of Wood but a good reserve thanks to the increased storage. Several Woodcutters are enough to supply a Burner Generator and Sawmill for early settlements.
As the settlement expands, using all the clusters of Forests where the Woodcutter can be surrounded ensures other Buildings will never run out of Wood.
The Wood Waste from the Woodcutter is also important for terraforming, especially as the only input for Compost. Keeping the Woodcutters producing Wood Waste by running the Burner Generator can help supply Compost.
