Splits items into two paths. 2x1x1

The Splitter is a multifunction belt component that is available after Advanced Belt research. It has 2 inputs and 2 outputs, not all of which must be connected to function. There are three functions that the Splitter can perform based on how many belt connections are made to it.

Splitting

In order to split a conveyor belt line into two lines, connect a single belt to the input side of the Splitter and connect two different belts to the output side. The Splitter will then split goods between the two output lines on an every other item basis. That is, effectively 50% of the input goods will end up on each of the two output lines.

Merging

You can merge two lines by connecting two conveyor belt lines to the input side of the Splitter and only line to the output. The Splitter will than take goods from both input lines and merge them onto the output line. Similar to the Splitting function, this is on an every other item basis.

You can merge conveyor belt lines without the Splitter, but only the Splitter will force the merge on a consistent and fair basis. For example, if you use a slide to merge goods onto an existing line, it can only move goods onto that line if there is space. This can lead to one line backing up while the other takes priority.

Load Balancing If you hook up conveyor belts to all of the input and output ports of the Splitter, it will work to evenly split goods between the input and output lines. This can be helpful for evening out inconsistent input flows and improve throughput. The same every other item rule applies to this mode too.
