The Flax Spinner is another building in the fiber supply chain. Its first use will be to produce ropes which are used in making nets for fishing at the Nettery, as a catalyst in a number of buildings, and used to construct some buildings like elevators.
Ropes are produced at a rate of 3 ropes for every 2 flax. A single fully staffed Flax Spinner making rope can supply numerous buildings without fear of running out of rope. If you run out, you most likely either built a massive elevator recently or ran out of flax and didn't realize it.
Rope can be sold to the Smuggler at an exchange rate of 13 coins towards a gold bullion. While a decent price, flax may be better spent on woven cloaks as they sell for 21 coins to the Smuggler and are also accepted by the Pirates.
It is strongly recommended that a production limit be set for rope so that you do not fill up your Warehouses with it.
The Flax Spinner can later receive a recipe to produce threads for the manufacture of fabric at the Weaver. This is produced at a rate of 3 threads for 2 flax - the same ratio as rope. This is your only pathway to producing threads for fabric until you unlock the Cotton Gin. While the Cotton Gin has a far better production rate of threads (8 threads to 1 cotton), its cotton crop is more costly to grow than the native flax. Which thread route you choose (or combination thereof), is your choice.
You will likely need multiple Flax Spinners producing thread to support the supply chains necessary to make Tailored Cloaks and Bedding for all of your Whiskers.
Like all fiber supply chain buildings, scissors are the catalyst to improve production speed. These cost copper ingots at the Coppersmith to produce. These may or may not be worth the investment depending on your supply chain setup.
The Flax Spinner is one of a few buildings that have a 2nd floor entrance. If you get creative, you can integrate this building with other fiber supply chain buildings to create a dense production area. For example, the Weaver is a single story building which can provide an entrance platform for the Flax Spinner.
