Basics

Guilds represent specialization amongst your workforce of Whiskers. Every Whisker will belong to one of the four Guilds. The four Guilds are: Miners, Engineers, Farmers and Explorers.

You will need a mix of Whiskers dedicated to each of the guilds to maximize the efficiency of your colony. Be careful though, the name of each guild can be misleading. For example, Miner's Guild Whiskers prefer working at Ore Furnaces rather than Engineer's Guild Whiskers.

Job Assignments

Farms get a boost from employing Farmers Guild Whiskers.

Guild specializations are important to consider in assigning to Whiskers to work. If you assign a Whisker to work at a building that matches their guild specialization, they will receive a large production speed bonus (+50). Thus, while you can assign Whiskers of any guild to a building in a pinch, it's better to match the Whisker to their preferred work.

If you are unsure which guild is preferred by each building, you can check by selecting a preexisting building or by trying to build a new one. Guild affiliation is also provided in the Buildings pages of this Wiki.

Not every building has a guild preference (e.g., Logistics Hub).

Passive Traits

Guild specialization provides an assortment of passive modifiers to each Whisker, and influences their effectiveness at their jobs. Guild passive traits work at all times, except the production bonus which requires working at an affiliated building. For example, Miner's Guild Whiskers always can carry more, which makes them well suited to construction and logistics work.

Guild members also have preferred food they will seek out in the evenings. Make sure you are providing a variety of food to keep everyone happy.

Changing Guilds

The School can help a Whisker change guild affiliation or raise their skill level.

You may find yourself in a position where you would like to swap the guild affiliation of a Whisker. For example, you have a spare Farmer's Guild Craft Master and need a Miner's Guild Craft Master. Instead of waiting for a lucky find on a Whisker Ship, use the School to convert Whiskers from one guild to another. Just be sure to select guild on the teaching interface.

Converting Whiskers between the 4 guilds is important to make sure your workforce matches the available jobs. You may wish to routinely review if you need to make any modifications as you expand.

Helpful Hint: If you have a School or two, you can accept more Whiskers from the Whisker Ship, as you can train them to meet your needs. Stop looking for the "perfect Whisker" and focus on the traits you cannot change.
