The Research Lab is required to research any of the technologies available in the game that are not otherwise unlocked from the start or by receiving a blueprint from [[The Claws]].

==Operation==
Each Research Lab has 2 slots for [[Education|Educated]] Whiskers to occupy. There is no [[Guilds|Guild]] affiliation for the building.

===Resource Consumption===
The Research Lab will consume [[Resources]] in accordance with the tier level for whatever you are trying to currently research. Research Tier 0 requires [[Planks]]. Each tier of research thereafter will require a new resource plus all prior resources required for earlier tiers.

Each Research Tier must also be unlocked before the blueprints in that category become available. You will need to unlock at least the next metal refinement to be able to progress further. The current progression is [[Planks]], [[Copper Bars]], [[Bronze Bars]], and [[Iron Bars]]. While [[Steel Bars]] can be unlocked, it is currently not needed for research.

The Whiskers working in the Research Lab will periodically fetch the necessary resources. Once the Research Lab is fully stocked, the Whiskers will slowly and simultaneously consume all needed resources. If you're missing even one resource, research will stop. For example, your researchers won't continue to consume [[Planks]] while waiting on [[Copper Bars]].

===Coordination===
Only one blueprint can be researched at a time. Multiple Research Labs will coordinate research on the same blueprint, decreasing the overall time to completion. However, the increased research speed is not linear. Each Research Lab working will also introduce a coordination penalty which will reduce research speed, but overall research speed will still be increased.

The resource cost for a blueprint remains the same (e.g. 21 [[Planks]] for a [[Plank Abode]] blueprint) regardless of how many Research Labs are working. However, the resources will be consumed at a faster rate because multiple Research Labs will be fetching resources and consuming them.
