Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only astronomical object known to harbor life. It is the homeworld of humanity and the starting point for space exploration in the game. Earth has highly developed infrastructure and serves as the game's primary political and economic center.

Strategic Value

Earth is the primary base of operations for humanity, with nations providing resources, research, and funding. Earth orbit positions are critical for research, communications, surveillance, and as staging areas for deeper space missions. It is technically possible to win after losing earth, as the Phoenix achievement demonstrates, but it is extremely difficult and not recommended for new players.

The four interface orbits of Earth can hold a total of 18 stations (8 each in LEO 1 and LEO 2, plus one each in Tiangong and ISS), and these are the only hab locations which can give interface bonuses to Earth's nations. The maximum possible bonuses these stations can provide are significant:

• +30% each to the following priorities: Economy Priority, Knowledge Priority, Welfare Priority, Government Priority, Oppression Priority, Environment Priority, Boost Priority, Mission Control Priority, and Military Priority
• +540 Control Point Capacity
• +0.3 Miltech to all armies
• +9 to detection of alien and human councilors
• +9 to propaganda value on Public Campaign missions

Bombard Values

As Earth is the only location where Armies, Launch Complexes/Mission Control Facilities, and population can be bombarded, its bombardment characteristics are unusually important.
