Smelter is a building used to smelt metals and ores into liquid metals, using heat.
Overview
The Smelter turns Copper Ore into Liquid Copper and Gold into Liquid Gold, and it requires heat to operate.
Mechanics
Both conditions must be met at the same time for the Smelter to work:
- Metal or ore must touch the top of the Smelter.
- Hot Thermal Buffer must touch any other side of the Smelter, or have Lava directly below.
When both are true, the pixels of metal or ore are converted into pixels of liquid metal/ore. Specifically Copper to Liquid Copper and Gold to Liquid Gold (at a 50% rate)
Tips
It is highly recommended to power a Smelter with a Thermal Buffer rather than directly with Lava as it can be placed anywhere compared to needing Lava directly below, and on average feeding it directly will use up 2.5x as much Lava as converting it to heat in a Thermal Buffer would.
