Overview
Gold is used to Research new technologies, and so is one of the two major materials required for early to mid game progression (the other being Fluxite).
Gold can be obtained as a byproduct of certain processing in the game. In order to be counted towards the player's bank, Gold must be stored in Collector blocks.
Mechanics
Gold can also be smelted into Liquid Gold to save space and still count as currency if stored in Collector blocks.
One pixel of Gold is worth 1 unit of currency - Liquid Gold is worth twice as much.
Tips
Gold is the heaviest pixel in the game and so will always fall the bottom of a pile, making it easy to filter out.
The conversion of Sand to Gold is approximately 2 Sand = 3 Gold after fully processing.
Considering the difference in Gold density between solid and Liquid Gold, unlocking the Heliodyne Tycoon achievement requires 62,500 (250x250) or 31,250 (~177x177 or 125x250) full Collectors respectively.
