If playing the test branch, it can happen that the Hittite faction which comes with Heroes of the Aegean, does not show up as a playable option in game. This is solvable by returning (temporarily) to the main branch of the game in the Steam game menu, letting that download and starting a new game as the Hittites. If players return to the test branch at this point, they should find that the Hittites are then available as a playable faction.

Old World - Empires of the Indus throws you into a vibrant, turbulent world grappling with the rise of mighty dynasties and their illustrious realms. Grow the powerful Mauryan Empire to its heights, lead the great tribes of the Yuezhi to forge a new destiny as the Kushan Empire, or raise Tamilakam to glory with the three great Sangam kingdoms. Spread forth from the Indus and bring the old world under your rule!
Empires of the Indus introduces three new playable nations, each representing a major player across a 600 year period of upheaval and opportunity that would shape the subcontinent for centuries to come:
* '''The Mauryas''' were rulers of a mighty Iron Age empire that once asserted dominance over the entire region for centuries under the leadership of Chandragupta and Ashoka. Take the reins and forge a powerful legacy for your people that will influence the world for millennia to come. Choose one of six powerful families to raise the empire to glorious heights, either through the might of their deadly Assault Elephants and Armored Elephants, or through spirituality by establishing Buddhism as a new World Religion, with the majestic Mahabodhi Temple as its Holy Site.
* '''The Yuezhi''', once a nomadic people, founded the great Kushan Empire under the leadership of Kujula, and grew to span from Bactria to the Gangetic Plain largely through the military accomplishments of Kanishka. Lead these mighty horse lords as they seek to unite the tribes with their unique Vassalize Tribe Mission, forcing alliances on any tribal nation that is weaker than them. And if intimidation doesn’t work, there’s always outright conquest – Kushan Cavalry and Kushan Warlord units lead the charge, dominating the battlefield with their Shock Cavalry ability.
* '''Tamilakam''' represents the heights of the Sangam culture as a nation that brings the three early Tamil kingdoms under one banner. Take charge of either the Cholas, Cheras, or Pandyas – represented as families – as they vie for dominance. Maneuver characters into positions of influence to grant the families power, potentially changing the nation’s leader and capital, applying their unique benefit while they sit upon the throne. And should outsiders try to interfere, Tamilakam’s Javelin Elephant and Elephant Archers will put on a stalwart defense.
This expansion also brings with it a wealth of other new content, including:
* '''The Huns''' - before Genghis Khan, the Huns emerged from the Steppes to bring the old world to its knees. This new tribe is more formidable than its counterparts, and will prove a serious opponent to any would-be conqueror, with unique events that cover the emergence of their most famous son, Attila the Hun.
* '''Religions''': Two religions shape the subcontinent. All three new nations begin with Hinduism, spreading the faith through Shrines and employing the unique Brahmin disciple to build religious structures and found Theologies. Meanwhile, the Mauryans can establish Buddhism as a new World Religion through a unique project, while others may do so once the world reaches four global Theologies and enacts the Philosophy law.
* '''Four new Wonders''', one for each cultural level:
** '''The Great Stupa at Sanchi''', a monument from an era of peace which allows a new improvement called Pillar Edicts to be constructed in each city, boosting legitimacy and civics.
** The prestigious '''Mahavihara''', a place of great learning that boosts science and civics.
** '''The Monumental Buddhas''', a testament to religious unity that boosts opinion and culture for each religion within a nation, as well as spreading Buddhism.
** The mighty '''Chittorgarh''' Hill Fort, which grants its host city extra health and heals units within all city territory.
* The Jungle vegetation type, which acts like woods but with increased ranged defense and movement penalties.
* Over 200 new events, 60 new ambitions, 11 new Cognomens, and four new rare resources in Jade, Silk, Spices, and Ebony.
* Three new mapscripts and five pre-made maps, covering everything from the entire sub-continent to smaller duel maps set in the Indus Valley or land-locked Bactria.
Unite the old world of South Asia, and establish a golden age for the people of the Indus!

Heroes of the Aegean

Steam
Epic Games
GOG

Old World - Heroes of the Aegean gives you control of Ancient Greece's greatest leaders and warriors. Lead Athens to victory in the Battle of Marathon, defend Greece from a Persian invasion as Leonidas and his 300 Spartans, and conquer the Hellenic world as Alexander the Great himself in a series of scenarios spanning over 200 years of classical history.

Heroes of the Aegean includes six historical free-form scenarios, each with unique characters and objectives:

  • Defeat the first Persian invasion: Lead Athens against the Persian army of Darius I and reenact famous historical events like Pheidippides running to Sparta and the decisive Battle of Marathon.
  • Defend Greece in an evolving scenario where your performance matters: Hold off Xerxes' army as long as possible as Leonidas in the Battle of Thermopylae, engage the Persian navy at the Battle of Salamis, and rout the enemy invaders during the final Battle of Plataea.
  • Macedonia conquers Greece: Fight for survival against much stronger enemies as Philip II and turn Macedonia from a weak kingdom surrounded by rivals into the ruler of all of Greece.
  • RPG-like Cloak and Dagger: Play Philip's widow Queen Olympias as she holds the empire together after the king's assassination, and shepherd the young Alexander the Great into leadership before his rivals take power.
  • Conquer the ancient world: Lead as Alexander the Great and expand the Macedonian kingdom in campaigns ranging from Tyre and Gaza to the Battle of the Persian Gate.
  • The Diadochi: Choose one of Alexander’s generals and carve an empire out of the chaos brought by his death, fighting former allies for the remnants of the Macedonian kingdom.

Heroes of the Aegean also adds the Hittites as a brand-new civilization playable in the main campaign and led by the warrior king Ḫattušili I. The Hittites field powerful and unique three-man chariots and gain extra civics thanks to their status as the world's first known constitutional monarchy. Additionally, their entire unit roster has the special ability to cross hills without movement penalties and the ability to chop down forests, reflecting the Hittites experience in the rugged Anatolian landscape and their record of deforestation. With all of these advantages, the Hittites are poised to take the Old World by storm.

  • Note: Solution for possible glitch with Hittite faction not being playable in the test branch of the game at first (May also apply to other DLC related factions):

If playing the test branch, it can happen that the Hittite faction which comes with Heroes of the Aegean, does not show up as a playable option in game. This is solvable by returning (temporarily) to the main branch of the game in the Steam game menu, letting that download and starting a new game as the Hittites. If players return to the test branch at this point, they should find that the Hittites are then available as a playable faction.

The Sacred and The Profane

Steam
Epic Games
GOG

Old World - The Sacred and The Profane adds a touch of religious fervor to your play with a wealth of new content that explores how religion impacted the fortunes of ancient empires. Experience over 350 new events, recruit new historical characters, and deal with the demands of the clergy as you try and appease the various faiths that exist within your empire. Be warned, if a religion disapproves of your rule, it can lead to dissent, riots, or worse.

Old World - The Sacred and The Profane includes:

  • 350+ new events - from small rituals and everyday belief, to the power struggles of state religions and the emergence of world religions, you’ll need to keep your wits about you to navigate the complex world of ancient worship.
  • Clergy characters - these new characters can join your court and bring their own missions and projects. How much they benefit you depend on how well their religion likes you. Existing characters can be inducted into the Clergy through a mission by the state religion's leader.
  • Over 10 new character traits - The Sacred and The Profane adds a variety of new character traits, including new core traits, event-related traits, and traits unique to Clergy characters.
  • Six new historical characters:
    • Mani, the founder of Manichaeism
    • Paul, fiery Christian convert and early Bishop
    • Josephus, Jewish rebel, general, and scholar
    • Ostanes, one of the rumored great magic users
    • Sappho, Greek poetess
    • Hypatia, Alexandrian scientist and philosopher
  • Religious dissent mechanics - Negative opinion from a religion can lead to dissent in cities with that religion, which can have lasting consequences.
  • Over 10 new ‘cult’ city projects - There are new cult improvements added by events, as well as improvements for existing Shrines. Each has a powerful and unique effect.

This DLC pack features a lot of 'what ifs', reflecting a time during which many religions were young and the empires of the known world were forced to reckon with competing faiths old and new.

Pharaohs of the Nile

Steam
Epic Games
GOG

In the unforgiving deserts of Africa, the Nile birthed powerful empires that shaped the old world. Lead the people of Egypt through over 400 years of history in Pharaohs of the Nile. Unify the New Kingdom as Ahmose I, rewrite the great Battle of Qadesh as Ramesses the Great, and struggle against the Bronze Age Collapse as The New Kingdom's last great Pharaoh, Ramesses III. Like the Nile itself, empires must rise and fall – will yours stand the test of time?

Pharaohs of the Nile includes six historical free-form scenarios, each with unique characters and objectives set in The New Kingdom that spanned from the 17th to the 20th Dynasty.

  • Unification: Start as a small regional power and establish one of the greatest empires of the old world. Lead Thebes against Hyksos and Kerma to unify Kemet and begin The New Kingdom Period.
  • Dawn of a Golden Age: Expand your domain into the Levant, Libya, and Nubia, dotting the lands with obelisks and building the Temple of Karnak before erecting a Mortuary Temple and immortalizing your name.
  • The Amarna Period: Engage in a unique holy war as you fight to establish the world’s first monotheistic religion – defeat cults of pagan gods and partake in battles of faith and conviction.
  • The Battle of Qadesh: Play as Pharaoh Ramesses the Great and confront the Hittites in the largest chariot battle in the history of the world.
  • Hearts of Kemet: Embrace the concept of Ma’at and seek victory through balance. As the High Priests grow stronger, your goal as Pharaoh Merneptah is to restore a sense of order.
  • The Sea People: The Bronze Age Collapse threatens everything you have built over 300 years - how long will your empire hold against the onslaught of this previously unknown threat?

Pharaohs of the Nile introduces the Kingdom of Kush as a brand-new civilization you can lead in the sandbox campaign of Old World. With multiple dynasties to choose from and unique Kushite Pyramids to build, alongside two powerful new ranged units available exclusively to them, there are many options to explore when playing as Kush. Gain legitimacy as you spread your faith, build shrines to bolster your economy, and erect defensive structures to protect the land using your roster’s unique ability to build forts with any unit. Spread forth from the Nile to bring the Old World under your thumb.

Wrath of Gods

Steam
Epic Games
GOG

Old World - Wrath of Gods introduces natural disasters to the base game in the form of nine calamities ranging from devastating droughts to map-changing earthquakes. Adapt to them and use them to your advantage, or watch your empire crumble under the forces of nature. Wildfires, floods, tsunamis, hurricanes, plagues, droughts, sandstorms, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes can devastate the world, and turn the tide of history itself.
  • A unique Wrath of Gods scenario telling the story of a nation’s founding – four nation-specific pagan gods will present their demands and expectations, rewarding the player with blessings when appeased, or striking them with calamities when enraged. In addition to the above, Wrath of Gods will introduce Aksum – one of the four great powers of the era, known in particular for its dominance in the Red Sea – as a new playable kingdom, alongside five historical leaders to choose from.

This new tribe is more formidable than its counterparts, and will prove a serious opponent to any would-be conqueror, with unique events that cover the emergence of their most famous son, Attila the Hun.

  • The Jungle vegetation type, which acts like woods but with increased ranged defense and movement penalties.
  • Over 200 new events, 60 new ambitions, 11 new Cognomens, and four new rare resources in Jade, Silk, Spices, and Ebony.
  • Three new mapscripts and five pre-made maps, covering everything from the entire sub-continent to smaller duel maps set in the Indus Valley or land-locked Bactria.

Unite the old world of South Asia, and establish a golden age for the people of the Indus!
