Residential buildings provide beds and shelter to
Citizens, allowing them to sleep at night and survive the passing of the Seasons. They also provide tax revenue, making them the only passive source of
Gold in Nova Roma (compared to active merchant trading via docks).
Residential buildings can support a set number of citizens living in it, with some of those residents acting as "head of household"; those workers are responsible for stocking up the residential building with food for sustenance,
Charcoal (or
Wood) for warmth, and amenities such as
Pottery or
Wine for happiness buffs. Houses that lack the basic food or warmth resources will result in citizens being unhappy and eventually dying, while lacking amenities merely causes a happiness debuff.
Citizens without a house will also cause a
Happiness debuff while they are homeless, and will eventually leave Nova Roma if not settled.
Buildings
The Residential buildings are a very important group of buildings, they provide the housing for all the
Citizens. All residential buildings provide Tax revenue. The hovel is the least space efficient but also the cheapest because they only require a small amount of items for satisfaction but also don't bring in much gold. The insulas are the most efficient but also require more goods and services in exchange for more gold. The Villa Rustica requires more goods than the hovel and small insula but provides tax and a farming bonus in a 3 tile radius from each side.
