In Game Description

Heavy civilian drive for cargo vessels, with increased power output at the expense of thrust power.

Gameplay usage

A drive that makes some extra power (about as much as a light civilian) for 5 points and some movement penalties. of limited use, but can be useful for fitting backline Marauders / Moorlines on the cheap, as the 15 point cost is cheaper than a 10 point reactor and 10 point drive, or those that only need somewhat more power than a reactor provides and can forego a mini-reactor (reaching demand in 25 points instead of 30), or, Mass Driver Marauders which may want the extra power and not care much for the movement penalties.

Notes

Multiple drives do not inherently affect the mobility of a ship, only provide redundancy, however, the modifiers to a ship's mobility are a combination of all installed drives' modifiers, so installing drives with multiple of the same effect can further affect it's capability (two whiplash drives will provide more speed than one, but a whiplash and standard drive will provide no different speed than a single whiplash). If some drives are disabled, only those drives' modifiers will be removed, which may even result in the ship's mobility improving in some cases (such as a prowled drive being disabled). If all drives on a ship are knocked out, it will not be able to move altogether.

Most drives have a small and large counterpart. Asides their sizes, OSPN drives tend to be less conformal in the differences between big and small than their ANS counterparts.

The BW2000 does not have a small counterpart.

DO NOT LOITER ON THE CATWALKS OF THE BW2000

I know you guys are gearheads and love to kill time around the drive but the catwalks are for maintenance cycles and drive teams to have an easier time working, they are NOT there for you to browse the StellarNet on your wristcomps or gab about the latest Slam Kings game while you get in everybody's way. The BW2000 is dangerous and not something to just mill about with like a bunch of bloody tourists.

Time and time again, I have to tell off someone playing cards under the radial overhang and look, I get it, I know it's a comfy spot to sit under when we're idling but you are REMINDED that the radial is the first thing to go during a drive failure and WILL shower the whole overhang with spears of metal when the turbine blows because you guys won't let maintenance do their damn jobs! Get it through your thick heads already!

This is a 10-metre high, heavyweight drive unit! Stop using it like the mess deck and get back to work! NOW!

  1. ↑ The amount of force the ship can exert to accelerate/brake in any direction, including strafing and reversing, but not to pitch, yaw, or roll - that would be Angular Thrust.
  2. ↑ The amount of force a ship can apply when rotating itself: for example how quickly it can accelerate/decelerate the turn rate of yawing/pitching/rolling
