In Game Description

High maneuverability drive for close quarters, delicate work.

Gameplay usage

Very useful drive on gun-fit Marauders and Flatheads. The penalties are very small compared to the advantages for those ships. The modifiers are arguably better than the 7700 drive for Marauders (namely less speed malus), but the fragility is also a concern in under-driving them.

Notes

Multiple drives do not inherently affect the mobility of a ship, only provide redundancy, however, the modifiers to a ship's mobility are a combination of all installed drives' modifiers, so installing drives with multiple of the same effect can further affect it's capability (two whiplash drives will provide more speed than one, but a whiplash and standard drive will provide no different speed than a single whiplash). If some drives are disabled, only those drives' modifiers will be removed, which may even result in the ship's mobility improving in some cases (such as a prowled drive being disabled). If all drives on a ship are knocked out, it will not be able to move altogether.

Most drives have a small and large counterpart. Asides their sizes, OSPN drives tend to be less conformal in the differences between big and small than their ANS counterparts.

The CHI-777 Yard's large counterpart is the CHI-7700 Drive, with more HP, a larger Top Speed reduction and wake penalty, twice the Linear Thrust bonus, and slightly less Turn Rate and Angular Thrust bonus.

Hey, Ben, thanks for the help with getting these installed. I couldn't get Amelie to budge and Constantine has more important things to do, so I thought I might as well go ahead with it. To be frank, the Longhaul drives just don't cut it anymore, I can't have my lineships aimlessly floating around to get picked off by a Mace or something. I think these drives from Cain Heavies should really help out, we're using the modified 700-series- you know, the ones with the re-routed fuel lines? I asked the driveworks if they could get us some better manifolds to go in there too and, I gotta say, they delivered cus' the performance increase is wild. I'm going to grab some techs later and throw them in the drive room to squeeze out some more performance, so I'll keep you updated on that.

Thank the stars we're using these freighters for our frontlines, the modularity is a lifesaver. Makes me wonder what the other captains are using, you know? We don't have mil-spec drives but some of these civvie drives gives those AN systems a run for their money.

  1. ↑ The amount of force the ship can exert to accelerate/brake in any direction, including strafing and reversing, but not to pitch, yaw, or roll - that would be Angular Thrust.
  2. ↑ The maximum speed the ship can yaw/pitch/etc at, but not how quickly it can start/stop turning, that would be the Angular Thrust.
  3. ↑ The amount of force a ship can apply when rotating itself: for example how quickly it can accelerate/decelerate the turn rate of yawing/pitching/rolling
