In Game Description

Light civilian drive, hastily reinforced when commandeered.

Gameplay usage

Like the FM200R, this drive is useful for helping smaller ships to absorb missile-fire and such from the rear-aspect, as the 50 DT is enough to withstand 50-damage HEI rays. This is less generally useful however as ANS relies on WAKE validation less, and also has access to HEKP.

Notes

Multiple drives do not inherently affect the mobility of a ship, only provide redundancy, however, the modifiers to a ship's mobility are a combination of all installed drives' modifiers, so installing drives with multiple of the same effect can further affect it's capability (two whiplash drives will provide more speed than one, but a whiplash and standard drive will provide no different speed than a single whiplash). If some drives are disabled, only those drives' modifiers will be removed, which may even result in the ship's mobility improving in some cases (such as a prowled drive being disabled). If all drives on a ship are knocked out, it will not be able to move altogether.

Most drives have a small and large counterpart. Asides their sizes, OSPN drives tend to be less conformal in the differences between big and small than their ANS counterparts.

The BW800-R's Large counterpart is the BW1500R, which simply provides more hitpoints and a higher DT.

Lore

The battle was over but the Slayer Grip was not without its injuries. Moreau moved into the drivebay, shifting out of the way of passing damage controlmen hauling kits of hull-patches and shoring, their sweat rolling off their faces into free-floating globules in the zero-G environment. His boots hit the deck with a muffled thump and, slowly, he worked his way to the drive unit parked in the center of the compartment. Brushing away globes of refrigerant and jostled tools, Moreau's heart sank as he neared the radial control and immediately spotted the fist-sized hole through the driveline housing. A trail of scorched shrapnel left an obious sign of weapons fire, a bridge from a sealed hull-breach to the housing.

The BW800 was never designed for this kind of punishment, frontline duty was a job for the bigger models. Moreau's hand brushed across his beard and he peered into the hole, expecting to see the manifold as nothing but a mangle of metal - but as he looked towards the powerline, he spotted a faint, blue light shimmering in the dark. He shone his pen light into the channel and smiled. Wedged into an armored block bearing the symbol of a tower was a shard of blackened shrapnel, its edges still glowing from the heat. He judged that 3 more inches to the right at the converter and the whole drive manifold would have exploded. His light moved downwards, reading the words printed beneath the symbol:
