Lore
The firepower these can put out will usually turn whatever ship that's carrying them into a lightning rod for counterbattery fire, I mean we're talking absolutely earth-shattering explosive power. Nothing gets the crew happier than hearing the constant "clang" of the guns just rattling off their shells.
You may have noticed that it was around the point of the Graznovian Conflict ending that the Naval Office's theory of military design changed. There's two reasons for this, and the difference from both sheds some light on the state of present-day warfare in the Cluster.
First, the Naval Office has something of a 'revolving door' situation. By that I mean that the Conference constantly changes who is doing what over in Solomon- whole design teams come and go, and each one has a different approach. There's no real 'standardization' to development pipelines because everything has to go through the Conference in the end and nobody wants to disrupt the status quo. Second, a real honest-to-Nyx war these days is never going to happen, at least not with the Shelter Alliance once the 'Novian Conflict ended. This means everybody who heads up development at the ANO winds up concepting equipment that is more effective at fighting ourselves than it would be fighting, say, the Falcatans or the Houses United.
They know that. Even if they won't admit it.
