Lore
Been around since the Graznovian Conflict but it didn't hit its stride until the Skirvaldr- for whatever reason- decided to sneak a raiding party down into Helheim over at Bragg back in 340IY. They just tore up everything they could find, taking a whole station's worth of Silver (both the currency and the ore) and causing CDR Kataran to go ballistic since her group's Defenders couldn't keep up with the Skrivaldr fast-movers.
The Aurora was already in the fleets but I guess the Brass didn't think it was anything more than an expensive toy (remember the absolute goatrope that was the Next-Generation Defense Weapon competition?) and decided that it was best parked on an Axford to keep up the appearances of a modern navy. Kataran knew the Skirvaldr would come back but the Brass just did not want to authorize her usage of the Aurora on her ship, too worried about "how it would look to the Core Conference if it malfunctioned", which was probably what set Kataran off and had her run into the Skirvaldr staging post, ordering all weapons battleshort and totally erasing the raiders with her Aurora phalanx.
It shut the Brass up, that's for sure. Don't know what happened to Kataran after that, though. I'm sure the ANO wasn't too happy with her.
