Component:mk-20-defender-pdt
In Game Description
The Mk20 sprays thousands of 20mm slugs at approaching threats, typically missiles, so long as the weapon is supplied sufficient ammunition. Its integrated Fire Control allows it to lock onto targets independently, but still requires cueing from the host warship's search sensors.
Despite its high rate of fire and accuracy, the weapon is not effective against any warship-type targets.

Lore
Ubiquitous rotary cannon that you'll find anywhere in the Archipelago and the Spur, much to the Naval Office's chagrin. I like to imagine all those old guys sitting around in their cozy offices, angrily chewing on expensive cigars from Miramare, staring at their shiny medals while they daydream about their accomplishments: "Those damn Pyxians will ruin anything- it wasn't like this back then, we had respect, we took down Vicoss with one shot."
Defenders were first thrown onto the old NAV-9 Skyguard, operating as a mobile AAA and vaporizing infantry back when the Deshimans were still using paramilitaries, thinking they could throw some hopped-up mercs at the problem and everything would be fine. Never happened, of course, turns out that a lot of mercs hate fighting people who also have guns. When the original Claymore heavy fighter rolled out, the Defender found a new role as an anti-tank weapon and the ANO was riding pretty high at that point. Sure, it devours ammunition faster than you can say 'Graznovia', but it'll turn anything below warship grade armor into salvage.
Now it's the standard close-in weapons system for Shelter, point-n-shoot. Every now and then, some pirates manage to steal one from security ships and then strap it to their own little tin-can before spreading the word of anti-Shelter or anti-Protectorate rhetoric, only to be swiftly smashed into space dust by the uncaring fist of an Atlatl missile.
