''With the MLS being a dime-a-dozen in the cluster nowadays, the Naval Office wanted a logical upgrade for a weapon that could hammer down any of the would-be gangs trying to overwhelm security flotillas. Winchester had some hangups about the idea of an angled VLS, he was stonewalling the development budget pretty hard but I think this is some pretty ingenious engineering here. Specialized locks are put in place to keep the missiles from sliding down and touching the launch doors, but that means the extra work makes it just a little more uncommon than your typical VLS.''
