The step in every game is founding the capital city. Explore the nearby tiles. Ideally the capital city should be founded in the middle of tiles providing multiple resources.
The second step should be expanding the city with districts. The Works District is a good start to reinforce the city's Industry production.
The third step should be researching new technologies. The priority of technologies depends on the played faction but usually Scientific Charter is a good start to gain more Science and unlock further technologies faster.
The fourth step should be exploring the nearby map and pacify Minor Factions.
Before the end of a turn every army should have orders, every city should be using its Industry, and there should be at least one technology in the research queue.
Resources
There are five primary resources in Endless Legend 2. Together they are called FIDSI and stand for:
- Food is stored on a city-level. Every population consumes Food. If Food is positive the population progressively grows. If Food is negative the population progressively declines, starting with the ones that consume the most Food.
- Industry is stored on a city-level and is primarily used to create units and structures or be converted into another resource via Convert Actions, but can also have more exotic uses like powering converters or allowing landscaping. If a City is not using Industry, it will store up to one turn of their production as surplus. The surplus will be instantly added to the next construction when one is ordered. Everything that costs Industry will show the number of turns it takes to complete next to the cost.
- Science is stored on an empire-level and is used to research technologies.
- Dust is stored on an empire-level and is primarily used to pay for army upkeep, accelerate constructions via Buyouts, purchase Strategic and Luxury resource, or bribing minor factions, but has numerous other uses as well.
- Influence is stored on an empire-level and is to build Foundations, attach or evolve Camps, and conduct diplomacy with other empires.
Minor Factions
Minor Factions are made up of one or more villages in a territory. They will not expand but will only align with an empire if given sufficient motivation. As time passes Minor Faction villages can create roaming armies that may attack.
Minor Faction villages may be pacified, which will make them no longer spawn armies and existing armies will never attack the empire that pacified them but the empire that pacified them also cannot attack them. Empires that have a city on the same territory as a pacified Minor Factions village can assimilate the Minor Faction. Armies adjacent to a village have two ways to pacify it:
- They can bribe the village with 150 Dust. This will pacify the village.
- They can parley to receive a quest. If completed it will pacify all villages in the territory.
Combat
Each battle begins with the Deployment Phase, where both sides place their army units on hexes shaded with the empire's color.
Units can be ordered to Defend, which will grant them additional Defense until the next battle round. Clicking the End Round button will automatically order all units that can to Defend.
Melee units have a Zone of Control that covers all adjacent tiles. If enemy units try to leave the Zone of Control they will be attacked automatically but this attack will not make use of skills.
Once two opposing units are adjacent, neither unit can leave without suffering
