== Overview ==

Ships are the extension of the pirate haven into the [[Seven Seas]]. Ships require significant space, crew, construction resources, and [[Resources|Upkeep Resources]] to build and sustain. They are the primary motivation for expanding the pirate haven, by requiring new natural resources and new supply chains.

A ship's strength is summarized by its tier number, from 1 through 6. Higher tiers require significantly more investment in the pirate haven but yield significant increases in ability to complete quests.

After the starter ship, the other 28 ships are each aligned to one of the [[Principle Paths]], and each path's class of ships have the same specializations in their stats and setting them apart from the ships of the other paths. For example, {{Empire}} ships, Destroyer-class, specialize in gun damage and armour. Eight ships are unlocked by spending points in both adjacent paths (for example, {{Empire}} and {{Seafaring}}), and these hybrid ships are significantly stronger than their peer ships in the same tier and denoted with a '''+''' after their ship type name, like '''Destroyer+'''.

== Acquisition and Upgrading ==

The pirate haven constructs its first ship, the ''Landlubber'', whose strength is only sufficient for the first few missions and events outside of the pirate haven. To upgrade the starter ship and to build new and stronger ships, upgrading the [[Compass]] through Principle Path Points unlocks higher tier ships and the resources required to sustain their crew.

Unlocking a new ship on the Compass is automatic when spending the required number of points. For example, it does not require an eighth point to unlock {{Ship|Tempest}} after spending its required seven points in {{Seafaring}}.

The tier of the ship also represents the progress of the Compass, with each successive tier ship earned simultaneously unlocking a new set of buildings. For example, when allocating the 7th point into {{Seafaring}} to unlock the {{Ship|Tempest}}, six new buildings are unlocked at the same time: the Weaver, Wood Workshop, Sailmaker, Lime Kiln, Shell Fisher, and Tabby Cradle.

== Ship stats ==

Ships have the following general stats that go up in large steps as the tier of the ship increases:

{{Health}} and {{Crew}} are essential; if either drops to zero during battle, the battle is lost and the ship is destroyed. Supplies can be replenished during battle at the cost of the other two.

Ships have the following specialized stats that differ greatly depending on it class, that is, which path the ship is aligned to:

* {{Boarding damage}}
* {{Speed}}
* {{Manoeuvrability}}
* {{Armour}}

Ships' tier number is a summary of their strength, but ships from different Principle Paths have specializations and therefore very different capability to complete various quests in the Seven Seas. The pirate haven will need to sustain a variety of ships in order to complete the variety of quests. Generally, quests aligned with a particular path will have a "Recommended Ship" of that same path and recommend the stats aligned with the strengths of that class of ships. For example, {{Seafaring}} quests will recommend Hunter-class ships, and their success favors ships with high {{Speed}}, which Hunters excel at.

The specializations of a path are significant: The 24 {{Armour}} of the Hunter-class Tier 6 {{Ship|Neptune}} is outclassed by the Destroyer-class Tier 2 {{Ship|Iron Fist}}, which has 26 {{Armour}}.
